I know ther e lots of daffodil folks here and I wonderign if any of you have either in your gardens or have seen in a catalog somehwere a blue daffodil bloom. Not purple but a pretty light blue like a nice sky blue on a warm sumemr day color bloom.
tryign to figure out if what we foudn is a sport or a miss named cultivar that came in the bag.
Thanks! : )
The blue daffodil
photo pleeeeze!
wil try and get a pic tommorrow. Have to borrow a camera and try and get it taken in between classes. The bloom is pretty well spent after it beign dug up and put in a pot.
It not a spray paint job that I can tell ya and it hasn't been feed any kind of die either. It really a blue daffodil. It a trip I can tell ya that. Blue with touche s of white.
I gotta know more about this. Was this bloom you saw in a vase or cut arrangement? Sounds like some sort of stem dye has been used.
Googled this, but I don't see the blue one:

They remind me of these blue roses:

I worked with them a few times at the flower shop. The stems and leaves were all dark blue like the pic, and handling them left my hands blue. They were grown with hydroponics using blue dye in the water-nutrient solution. Did you notice how the stem was red in one of the daffodil pics?
We had gotten a box full of extra bulbs from one of the big bulb companie s from over in Holland to us e in the trainign gardens at school. We plante d hundred s of bulbs all in the same area. We plante d them bed s so professionally. LOl we dumpe d the bulbs mixe d em up and just plante d bulb after bulb right next to each other. They all came up in a crazy pattern but turne d otu nice actually. When this oen bloomed it was blooming blue. It was not cut and I even checke d the soil to se e if anythgin maybe did get dumped.
We planted hundred s of bulbs of all differnt kinds and there all came in bags usually 25 of each kind in a bag.
The bloom still attached to the bulb. The bulb was dug up from the bed s and put in a pot. So nothign ould happen to it til we figure out what is goign on with it.
Did notic e that ther e a very faint lines of the turguois e blue tinge color runnign up stalk of bloom runnign up, but other than that it not coming of f the blue is on there. it really blue.
Clay...... I don't se te blue eithe r but I wonder if somehow we got shippe d from overseas oen of thos e mans bulbs by mistake. I knwo when they grow in fields you never know wher e realy oen color cultivar begins and one ends.
I have use d dye s before on cut flowers and spray paint for arrangment s and this not that.
if some die wa s used seems like all the bulbs liek it and right next to it woudl have some coloration ther e barely an inch between all thes e bulbs. nobody goes to this are a either wher e they wer e planted.
Anybody know how long it take s for a daf to produc e an of f shoot. Hoping that we get it to make soem more and they bloom blue too.
