Landscaping a playhouse... I don't want to mess this up!

My daughter will have a playhouse in the next several weeks. She chose a very English cottage look. I have started a sketch and am trying to plan this out, but I am terrible at "planning" gardens i am more of an on the fly gardener. I just REALLY want this to be extra special!

I am looking for advice / ideas of where to start and how to go about actually planning something out. We are in zone 5-6 and the spot will receive full sun till about noon, then bright shade the rest of the day.
