Odd bloom on Strep 'Daniel'

I've known something was going to be strange about this bloom for several days. The bud looked wider and flatter than normal. It finally opened today, and just look at it. It's twice as wide and there is two of everything! Very strange! Any ideas what would have caused this? Is it good or bad?? LOL

Here's the odd bloom.

This is the bud before it opened. See how wide it is?

I just noticed how yellow the flower stalk looks in that last picture. It's not that color at all, just the normal color. Must have been the lights that made it look like that.

Here's the other normal bloom.

Here's another shot of the odd bloom. The lighting was different when I took this one, so everything is a little darker in this shot.

Looks like a "siamese twin" bloom, LOL. I don't know what caused it, could just be "one of those things" -- a rare fluke. Imagine it that bloom produced a fruit of some sort....

Here's an odd looking "triplet" squash that a friend gave me...

Oh, what a Beautiful Plant! 'Daniel' is the one I just got seeds for, from Jannich and I can't wait to sow them! I have never tried growing any Gesneriad from seed so I'm keeping my fingers crossed that they germinate and grow for me!

Sometimes I think "Mother Nature" just does her thing to make us Think, and Wonder! Plants are like People sometimes, deformities and all!

I have a gerbera daisy that does this all the time. I think it's similar to how twins are created like critterologist said. Some of the cells that were supposed to divide just didn't quite make it.

Love the squash, Critter! We've had doubles before, but I don't think I've seen a triple before. I'll have to show that to my son. He'll get a kick out of it!

Well, being around this crazy house, something weird was bound to happen to one of the plants! LOL Maybe my Daniel is just a bit more sensitive to all the craziness than the other plants! He was just trying to cope and fit in. ;o)

LOL... that squash ended up in my bag because my friend's mother just couldn't eat anything that looked so weird! Actually, they have this wonderful huge family veggie garden, and they are generous about calling me over to pick when they've harvested "all they can stand" of something. :-)

Oh, nice neighbor you have Critter! Free Home Grown Veggies! Sure wish I had a neighbor like that, or room for a nice Veggie Patch! One of my backyard neighbors used to grow veggies years ago and share with a few of us neighbors, but she no longer has a garden. Her Mom, who lives directly behind me gives me oranges, grapefruit and tangerines every year from her trees! Wonderful, sweet fruit! We had a few orange trees and a grapefruit tree many years ago ... huge trees that bore wonderful fruit, but one year in the early-mid 80's we had a very hard freeze that killed them and we never replanted citrus. I do have a small Meyer lemon tree in a pot on my pation that I've not taken the best care of. I need to get it in the ground this year, so maybe in a couple of years I will have some nice lemons!

I kinda like that bloom on Daniel Amy.Sometimes odd can be good : )
Speaking of odd.Critter that is one crazy looking squash.LOL Amazing how they form like that.

The middle of it has flopped down, so it really does look like two blooms now. LOL

Amy: I think that "Twin" bloom is Beautiful! Really Unique.

Wonderful Strep to grow. I like different blooms ! Lin please post piectures of your Daniel seeds as they grow.

Gladly ... IF they germinate and grow for me! I planted them, now the waiting and hoping ... and praying!

Thanks never give up some can take a long time. I've had times when I was ready to throw them out did not get to it and next thing I know had seedling coming up !

This bloom didn't last any time. 3 days, I think. Oh well, it was pretty while it lasted. :o)

Lin, don't give up on those Strep seeds, or any Gessie seeds, for that matter. Robin is right that they can take quite a while, and even if most have come up, sometimes you'll still have a few "late bloomers" that will pop up. Just keep them moist and you'll end up with more Streps than you know what to do with! :o)

Thanks Amy ... I'm waiting and watching! Will keep y'all posted!

If ever you get an extra 'Daniel' rooted leaf or division, I would be interested in trading...Daniel is my son's name.

Joseph...

I did the seed thing a couple months back, from seed that Jan (jannich) shared with me... they were her 'Daniel' x self. I've got a bunch of babies from that, and I wouldn't mind trading something with you when they are a bit bigger.

You can see the whole thread on it here... http://davesgarden.com/forums/t/720309/

Joseph, I'd be happy to take a look at 'Daniel' and see what he has to spare. I've had it for a while, so there may be a baby I could separate. I'll get back with you sometime over the weekend. I'm just too tired to start playing with plants right now, and don't know how much I'll be home tomorrow. Sunday, at the latest, I'll check and let you know. :o)

Thanks, VA Wild Rose and RainGazer! Much appreciated! No rush, just wanted to plant the thought LOL.

Well, that is really bizarre, and so is that squash, critter...lol I LIKE 'em!! haha

Wasn't that the coolest bloom? I tried to pollinate it, but it didn't work. :o(
