I just got this but the only name they gave it was Epi. cryptofan. It comes from Mexico. Does anybody know the scientific name for this Epi? Thanks.
ID On orchid cactus
The word "cryptofan" sounds incorrect as a species name. I don't recognize it though.
Buttoneer, I was hoping that someone could ID this one for you. I am no authority, but I think it looks like a fern I used to own. Here is a picture of a Dwarf Elkhorn fern that looks alot like your picture. Also, ferns, mosses and lichens belong to a group of plants called cryptogams, which is pretty close to the word on your tag.

Could you take a picture close up of one of the branches?
Louise
I will when I get the plant, and send the pix to you. It looked like a fern to me, too. If it is not an epiphyllum, then it was misrepresented. Thanks so much.
Definitely not an Epiphyllum. It does look more like a fern.
Looks like my staghorn fern, and definitely NOT like my epis, but I'm certainly no expert!
Wow, Judy, that second picture looks like a fern to me too. The stems appear too flat to be succulent like other epis I have seen, and I dont see any segments on them. Even the little piece in the upper left corner looks "ferny." It will be interesting to see what you receive from this vendor.

There has been some discussion on epiforum about this seller - seems she invents her own names . And the concensus seems to be that this is certainly not an epie but an Elkhorn as already suggested.
So what do we do about this? This is the first time I have bought from this seller. I appreciate your help on this matter. I really wanted an epiphyllum and thought she had something radically "different" but all is not gold that glitters. Judy Showers She has received my check but has not shipped yet.

Oops my mistake - it is somebody called Mrsmac who sells so many cuttings she names herself.
In any case that is certainly not an epie - it was identified as an Elkhorn Fern by an Epiforum member.
Thanks again for all your help.
Looks like an Elkhorn or a Green Flame Fern. Definitely not an Epi. Probably paid way too much if you purchased it as an Epi.
Look at some of these photo's of Elkhorn Fern in Plant Files:

I saw someone selling one of those on ebay as an Epi, I though Oh my!
It certainly is a pretty fern type plant though, I think I have seen a similar sort in my local nursery;)
they were likely mixing it up with the chrysocardium or some other Epi that has leaves similar to a fern...
It look like a Staghorn to me too ... but whatever it is ... I would love to have one. :)
