I'm new to Hedychium but old enought to horticulture to know that they're not going to make it out into my zone 5 garden so I'd like to try potting them up.
Can anyone recommend a type of potting mix?
Oh, and what sort of dormancy, if any, do they need?
I just got: H. coronarium and H. 'Tai Monarch'.
Thanks

Bumping to top for some needed info.
:~)
I can say that I would use a well draining mix-preferably one that is a soiless mix ( like Promix or any other brand) that is a peat based mix that has perlite etc in it, and not potting soil.
I am not sure about the dormancy for Hedychiums, as mine stay in the ground outside thru the winter, but I am guessing that you could bring them inside and keep at temps over 40 and let go on the dry side or keep them inside in a sunny window ( south side ) and keep green thru the winter, watering as needed. When the weather starts to warm up in the spring, then start to water more and there should be new sprouts coming up soon.
Thanks, tigerlily, for the info. Just wanted to make sure the newbie got some help.
