Our first water lily!

No. San Diego Co., CA(Zone 10b)

I didn't realize they could be so much fun. We saw it close to the surface yesterday, so this morning when we went out it was starting to open. We stood and watched the petals do their thing. The photo color is a bit washed out, but it is a soft yellow called Lemon Mist. We got this one from Texas Waterlilies.

What a beautiful photo! Isn't it great having a pond?

I can't tell you how great it is, Ann. It makes my husband so happy - he "walks the pond" last thing before work and first thing after. :-)
I'm enjoying it too, mind, but for him it's really special.

Congratulations!

Thanks! I'm greedy - I want MORE! :-)

LOL Yep, you've got the bug all righty!

well guys, I got more! My first lily started blooming a few days ago and now I have 5 flowers open and 6 buds getting about to pop. All on one lily. I'm amazed at the profligate flowering. Is this because its a new plant or do they always go crazy like that? My other lilies have a few buds but are not there yet and some have only small leaves. They must be waiting for summer.

It's quite a sight with the fishies checking me out for more food. They are two feet deep and the barley bags are doing their thing very nicely. Still no UV filter. :-)

fredrump....what a great lily! The burgundy in the leaves is a fantastic background to the white flowers...

Hi Fredrump.
Beautiful pictures of lilies and fish :) How old are your fish? My pond has a layer of ice :( I am waiting on tippe toes for warm breezes to come, LOLOL

I can't quite capture the true colors of the lilies with my Nikon. It's another mystery to solve but you guys get the idea. They are beautiful bluish purple with a touch of yellow inside.

My fish are of various ages. The 3 big ones and the big golden butterfly are 6 years old and are transplants from a friend whose pond is too small for his big fish. He's unloading the least colorful ones on me. :-) The 11 others I have I bought locally and spent between $400 and $500 on. They will grow up too and are more colorful and select.

I just got a call from a friend in PA. The pine to come back here as it's still in the 40s there. The weather here is simply delightful and most of the snowbirds have already left. They are missing the best part of the season.

My lilies have been blooming now for quite some time....I thought for a while they didn't look so great....I guess I just need to be more patient...
