Sequim lavender festival?

Vancouver, WA(Zone 8a)

Any of you attend this annual festival? I have been meaning to attend for several years now and I am determined this year, 2007, is the year.

I've been a couple times. It doesn't change much from year to year. The first time I went was better than the second time. They have a core group of farms that seem to always be on it and then a couple that change from year to year. The first year had better overall farms. Plus it was the first time and since it doesn't change a whole lot, it got repetitive the second year.

Definitely worth going once if you've never been. Depending on where you live, it's hard to see everything all on one day for your first trip, so the first time you should spend the night.

anastasia, I've wondered aloud many times why the farmers in Sequim concluded that the average consumer would swallow the idea that their area was an ideal region for lavender to be grown. Lavender is a desert plant that has been cultivated for millennia all over Italy and southern France in the driest of areas where water is scarce and the sun shines for 300 days or more a in year.. Yeah ...... Sequim pops right into my head when I think of those desert region climates totally devoid of trees .... LOL. Maybe if the folks there were to codify all new construction to be Mediteranian style architecture ..... maybe then we could pretend we were in Italy or southern France when passing by Sequim ...... just like the the town of Leavenworth has done in its attempt at garnering tourist dollars to become a Bavarian village. I imagine most people connect the dots and see the disparity of resemblance of either place. It just sorta makes me cringe. Pursuit of the almighty dollar makes people do strange things.

The festival is fun, I usually come home with 4-5 lavender plants. You'll get tired of the smell though! Lavender ice cream, iced tea, scones, lotion, chicken, etc etc... :)

I too wondered why Sequim. But it is a good industry to have in your neighborhood.

anastatia, I have driven by the area only 3 times but all within the past 5 years. There is no arguing the visual beauty of lavender fields. I'd rather have them here on my place instead of weeds.
