That seems too tall to be 'Rip van Winkle'...

bumping up thread to see if anybody else has an idea for you..

Did this one get an ID on the Plant ID forum?

There's one here called Narcissus pseudonarcissus Van Sion (Telamonius plenus)

On the next site you need to click on the bulb link if it goes to homepage, go to the autumn bulbs, narcissus, doubles. It's pre 1620.

There's some good info on them here. I have oodles of them growing in my yard and I knew they were very old but didn't know what they were until a friend sent this article.

Thank you all for your input. We did get an ID on the plant ID forum, and the consensus is the Van Sion. It is too tall for Rip Van Winkle, though must surely be related.
An interesting bloom!

I think they're wonderful! I love that "wild mophead" bloom.

'Rip van Winkle' is a similarly wild look in a mini daff that I think is also a fairly old variety... I fell in love with them at last year's flower show in Philly, and they were at the top of my "must have" list for fall bulbs... The first one opened today, and the rest of the buds are so fat that I think I'll have quite a little show of them this weekend!
