Well, I was soo proud of myself yesterday. got all the plants in that I could and covered the cannas in the beds. Well, this morning it iced and snowed... the cover on the cannas had blown off and they are toast.. they will come back... I hope. Electricity was out for hours so I decided when the greenhouse got down to 40 it was time to bring everything into the house which was 68 still. Stepped outside and the first site was my beautiful "Texas Pink" brug sitting on the wood pile all glistening in her thin coat of ice! I cried. She was my only pink and I was about to repot her into a 5 gallon pot. She was outside after a tx for white fly and getting some sun. Had been in the greenhouse. Dumb, Dumb, Dumb. I just missed her. I brought her in .. she is now all thawed out and mush. Her pot was small so I am sure the roots froze too. Now I am paranoid I missed something else.

I let my only Pink freeze last night!
So sorry to hear that! I've been there and done that too. My only brug is still sitting up on a chair in the corner of my living room. It was my first brug last summer and I was too scared even to cut it back when I brought her in. She is still all branched out with dried out branches. There is new growth down low on the trunk so I guess I didn't do anything to awful to her:LOL: I'll keep you in mind if I find any good deals on pinks!

Oh gosh Tammie, that is terrible! This has been the craziest year!
oh Tammie.. where did you get yourTexasPink... sorry to hear of it's demise... things happen I know... ... oneyear I wasout in the driving sleet...getting the last of the plants inside... weather can come as quite the suprise.. This year lots of usually safe places were frozen ... freezing years of work... All the best there...Gordon
Gordon.. I got it from you! It was one of the wonderful ones you sent. I have the Snow White growing well along with other whites. Just I was soooo upset with myself when I froze my favorite!
Tammie
Yes...Tammie..
It all did sound familar.. that'swhyIasked... Not toworry there.. I'll send you another cutting.. you'll be having blooms before you know it.... well shortly... anyway...
I'll not be moving anything outside for another couple of weeks I'd imagine... at which point I'll lop off cutting for you.. it's likely to perhaps be a smaller thing than I sent before.. I'll be getting shed of some of the thinner winter growth... and trying to introduce some form into the rampant chaos.. so.. Happy Easter...your Texas Pink will arise and bloom againther...
Thus it was written..
All the best there...Gordon
You are an angel! Can't wait and I promise this one will never have the opportunity to freeze! It will be so babied. LOL
We are having a heat wave.. up to 30 right now. Supposed to be 55 today and low of 45 tonight then high 75 tomorrow and low of 55... guess winters last hurrah has passed... got to run, my dogs are outside howling... strange to hear that!
Tammie
Surprise.. these brugs are tough! My Texas Pink was growing in a small plastic soda bottle when it froze... I could even see ice on the roots through the plastic... Well... IT'S ALIVE. I waited until it had some real greenery before taking a picture. This is amazing. The entire plant was coated in ice and out in below 30 temps for over 18 hours! (the white on her is sevin dust.. something is dining on my brugs at night)
Here she is... I am soooo proud of her!
Congratulation, on you having this Baby resurrected, i bet you are now really anxious to see her bloom. Keep it growing and good luck.
Tammie..
well that's good news... she is my strongest by far ora bunways up and growing/flowering... no wonder it did so well through the cold as well.. here's wishing you a pile of blooms..Gordon
Gordon.. do you have a picture of her blooms? I would like to use one on her tag...garden marker. I am very proud of her.. It truly is amazing with all that ice and snow. She was planted in a 24 oz plastic soda bottle so you can imagine how small and unprotected the roots were.
Tammie
LOL @ Gordon
Congrats Tammie!
I just dug up Creamsickle yesterday cause there were NO signs of life, just mushrooms! I needed the pot so I was gonna dump the contents.... yup, you guessed it... when I dumped it out.. there was a tiny white sprout in the middle of nothing but rotten roots... I couldn't believe it!
the more I read and hear, the more amazed I am at the resilency of these plants. They are a definite must have for first timers who want to prove to themselves they can actually grow something... people like me!
