Glasswings in the U.S.???

Fredericksburg, VA(Zone 7a)

I am trying to find out if anyone knows if the Glasswing Butterfly (Greta Oto) is in the U.S. I was told it was in Texas... does anyone know if this is true? I ask because I am trying to find a resource to order the eggs, caterpillars, or cocoons. I raise buterflies and moths as a science education project for my four children.

Any information that you can provide is greatly appreciated. Thank you in advance for your time and cooperation.

Karen,

A couple of rare strays were photographed in the south tip of Texas. Both first US Records.

Check out our local NABA website for photos of the Broad-tipped Clearwing (pteronymia cotytto) and the Thick Tipped Greta (greta morgane) that were seen here.

The butterflies are found in Mexico and Costa Rica.
Their larval host plants are not native to the US.
