Mystery fertilizers

Precipice Valley, BC(Zone 2a)

Our neighbours here in Precipice Valley moved away, and I ended up with their gardening stuff. Included are some fertilizers which I "suspect" were for hydroponics (gee, I wonder what they planned on growing!!!) They're supposedly useful for soil-growing as well...does anyone have any experience with these:

Liquid Karma - Bio-catalyst Plant stimulant I've been using this on my transplants and they're doing well, but that could be due to other ingredients in my soil mix.

Flower Power from Welcome Harvest Farm...I can't figure out how much to use in my potting soil mix, since it has amounts for outside planting only.

GrUv. I've NO idea what this is; there are a number of "trial size" bottles. There is an umlaut over the "U"

Any suggestions will be appreciated!

And thanks for the comments about fish fertilizer vs seaweed...I'd had a little mind block and forgotten that they are different. (Duh) And I DON'T have the deodorized fishy stuff, so I've been waiting to use it until I can move things into the greenhouse. But our neighbours also left some seaweed, so will use it immediately.

P.S. Just had a birthday (thanks to those who sent me greetings!) so the picture is of me with my dog Chilko...I've been off the forum for so long you've all probably forgotten who I am!

So glad to hear from you. Think of you every time I read about clematis or pine beetles, mills working over time to process wood before it rots, what the mill towns will do when thereis no more wood etc etc etc.

inanda who stayed close to home last year in the end.

Edited to add what I intended to say in the beginning.

Have forwarded all your names to a 'friend' who does grow things hydroponicly.

Rosemary, so glad to hear from you. I've often wondered how you are getting along up there, in the back country. I had gargeous white blooms on the cactus you sent to the RU in '05, and they are getting ready to send out bloom spikes again. Glad to see you're back on the forums.

Linda

Great picture of both of you.

Hello, Chilko, I don't believe we've met, .... that's a great pic and you have a lovely partner in crime there! Wow, Precipice Valley is zone 2b! That must be a challenge. When is your last frost date? Ours here in the Ottawa Valley is usually the May long weekend, although I usually wait until the first week in June to be sure and not be worried about covering everything. Sorry I can't help with your fertilizer question, though. :-)

Hi Rosemary.....I certainly remember you. It's nice to see you.

My cactus I got from you at the RU in 2005 hasn't bloomed yet but it seems to be doing fine. The pink epiphyllum you sent me at the same time is going to bloom again. This will be it's third time and it has one more flower every time it blooms....it's up to 3 now. The plant is growing nicely. Last spring I pollinated my red epi with the pink one and I have lots of lovely little seedlings. I'm not sure what I'm going to do with them but I've had fun growing them. Do you want any? Here's a picture of them.

I have been using a foliar spray(Sea Spray, a Kelp based product) and it keeps the Epis and others so strong an bloom-bearing! Elaine

Glad to hear from you all--and happy that some of the cacti are producing already. Thanks Sandy in Campbell for the offer, but I'm overwhelmed with house plants at the moment. Anyone want a humungous jade? Of course, you'd have to come and get it!

Sandy in Ontario--LAST frost free date? What's that? Just kidding, we can almost always count on no frost between July 10 and August 10. Almost.

We still have 18" on snow on the vegetable garden and the greenhouse is still too cold for my 5' tall spaghetti squashes and 4' tall tomatoes...I wonder if I started just a tad early this year? Our first snow was last October 25 so it has been a VERY long winter.

When in the RU this year? Denman Island...what a perfect place for it.

Rosemary

Rosemary, the RU is on Denman Island June 16/17. Any chance you could make it?

Yes, those dates are certainly possible--and Dave thinks he might like to come with me! We have an old camper van we could bring. It depends a lot on when spring arrives here (and when I can get my garden in) and if there will be someone here who can look after watering, greenhouse, etc.

Where can I find more details? How far ahead would I have to let you know? Would I need to book parking space somewhere? We're pretty self-contained but would need an outhouse. May Chilko come with us?

Whee, this would be so much fun!
