This is my only strep that has bloomed so far. It had 1 bloom on it when I got it from Rob's and has been blooming ever since - at least a month now. I just love this pretty little thing.
I'm finding that streps seem to be much easier to grow than av's -- anyone else notice this, or have I just been lucky with the few that I have?
Isn't this Bristol's Ant Eater a beauty?
oh i love that, thats one more far me lol
Very Beautiful Maureen and Tiger is a Cutie : ))
Starfly, yours are so pretty too. I just love streps.
Cedar, thanks for the compliments.
Maureen: That is a Beauty! For me, African Violet's are very easy. I only have 3 Streps that I got in trades recently and so far .... so good! I am hoping they will bloom for me. Any idea how old they have to be before hey bloom? What do you feed your Strep's? I have been using Eleanor's VF11 since someone on DG talked about it a couple of months ago. I haven't really seen any change in any of my plants yet, but I'm waiting and hoping! My very first try at a Strep was one I got from Rob's in October when I ordered a couple of Chirita's, I decided to get a Strep too cause it was so pretty. Well, when I got it, it was a tiny little leaf in the cup and it didn't even survive 3 days! I was disappointed, but am having better luck with these little larger ones that I've acquired in trades! I can't wait for them to grow and bloom! They are such Gorgeous plants! I am getting seed from another DG'er to try my hand at growing from seed! I can't wait .... I really look forward to that! Your Plant is just Lovely .... and, by the way, so is "Tiger"! He has similar markings to one of mine. Here's my Sweet Cali:
Plantladylin - I don't think they have to be as old as a/v's to bloom but I'm not positive. My ant eater was started in Nov, so I guess around 5 months. We will have to see if any of the experienced growers chime in here. This is my first blooming strep. And I just got like 5 or 6 more in the mail today from Gail. She sent me like 50.00 worth of plants. They are even bigger than the streps I got from Rob's. I'm trying seeds too, is it "DANIEL"? Your kitty is adorable. Love the way you got him to pose for the pic.
Yes Maureen, my Strep Seeds are Daniel - I'm getting them from Jannich. I can't wait, it's gonna be a lot of fun trying to get them to germinate and grow! Wish me luck!

p.s. We have four Kitties in our family! Cali is my favorite of them all, she is the sweetest cat, has the best disposition of any cat we've ever had.
Lin, your so lucky to have a really sweet cat. Mine is sweet only some of the times, the rest of the times he is fresh and finicky. I'll say he is getting more affectionate now that he is no longer a kitten. He's about 4 yrs old now.
Our four cats are 14, 12, 10 and one old girl that we aren't sure really how old she is, but we think close to 20, if not a bit older! We had one cat live to be 24 years old! Our Vet at the time said it was the oldest Feline Patient he'd ever had. They all have different dispositions/personalities. One was my Mom's cat who we adopted when my Mom passed away 2 years ago. Her name is Princess and she came into this household and took over, tried at every chance to attack the other cats ... wanted to fight all the time! I said her name should have been Queen, cause she sure wants to be the dominant one and be in charge! At first the others were petrified of her and we had to keep them all separated from her. They are all declawed indoor cats, but teeth can do damage too! Finally this year they have begun to tolerate each other and the only one we have to keep separate is the really old one. She is afraid of everything and everybody except me. Fun household!
Beautiful, Maureen! Just beautiful!
I find Streps to be MUCH easier to grow than AVs. Almost all of my Streps are blooming or in bud, but very few of my AVs are. I've convinced my husband that a bunch of Streps would be the perfect present for my upcoming birthday. (I'm thinking 30 is a nice round number! LOL) This just may make my list of must-haves!
Thanks for posting the pictures!
Maureen...I love that deep color of your strep....am still anxiously awaiting arrival of my first streps.....I hope i don't love them as much as I do these Av's....I will be forced to move the furniture out to add more lights!!!
thanks for posting....gail
