frost?

Seguin, TX(Zone 8b)

Stupid weather.....supposed to be lows in the lower 30s Saturday and Sunday night. I've got all of my hoyas outside as well as all the vegetables and tropicals in the flower beds. Guess what I will be doing on Sat? Now if I can only find enough covers for everything....
grumble, grumble, grumble....

The same here Kim, I don't want to bring everything back in, I think I will take my chances, unless they absolutely say ( Frost is coming ) I hope not, but it is not unheard of.
A few years back we had snow on Easter Sunday.

Yea...I thought about just letting them tough it out when they were saying a low of 39, but we always get at least 2 degrees cooler at my house than what they forecast and now they are saying 36 and 37. I know my hoyas can't take that for long without some heat and protection. And I have spent so much time working on these beds, I just can't bear for something to go wrong right now. I have a friend giving me some extra blankets and such, it ought to be an interesting sight.

I don't like that forecast one little bit ... mainly because I wanted to play golf this weekend! :-) The only plant I'm concerned about is a Blackhaw Viburnum that I just put in the ground on Tuesday. It's a hardy plant, though, and hopefully if I mulch it adequately it will be okay. But durnit all, this will not be a good weekend to work in the yard. Texas weather!!

It's been so lovely! Amazing spring weather...then to go back to rain and cold! Forecast lows of 36° for two nights in a row here.

Fort Worth, TX(Zone 8a)

Well I don't have too many plants to worry about. Everything I had kept inside the shop and house went outside and we had company and forgot to cover them the last freeze we got. So I only have a few to worry over now! I hate to see the blooms that are just coming out on the perennials sucumb to the freeze though. Plus all the little seedlings coming up, that were sowed "after the last chance of frost". (HA!) Weather guys can't seem to get it right, so I am hoping they are wrong about this one.

I guess I won't have to worry about my chocolate treats in the eggs melting! But we may have to have the hunt in the house for the little ones.

Josephine, Arlington, TX(Zone 8a)

Yes, it feels more like Christmas than Easter when it is so cold, it's just weird.

west Houston, TX(Zone 9a)

Only predicted mid-forties low here and more rain. My plants will probably be happy to have the cool down. I know I'll enjoy it--this is the last time we will see nice cool temps like this until November. =)

Seguin, TX(Zone 8b)

well....this morning they changed the lows to 34 both nights, and on top of that a chance for snow flakes while it is raining. Can you believe it? Means it will be 32 at my house at least..... I am also concerned for all the farmers out there with crops already up and going.

Kim

La Grange, TX(Zone 8b)

Lows for La Grange are predicted at 35º for Saturday and 39º for Sunday. Here at the ranch it can be up to 5 degrees colder. If there is any wind, it will feel colder. My fruit trees are loaded with small fruit. Trees are too large to cover. Another year without fruit? New growth on other plants is so tender. :-(

Seguin, TX(Zone 8b)

Ok.....after an afternoon of hunting for pots to cover everything that is tender along with tarps and comforters covering my veggie garden, I think everything is covered. I figured it was better to do it now since tonight it will start raining and tomorrow only has a high of 44. I need to get some clothes pins to secure a few things. I just hope everything is ok. What a way to spend a Friday afternoon....

I have a bunch of seedlings of various kinds I have a couple of small portable greenhouse thingeys and they have a thick plastic cover, that zips closed. I stuffed as many things as I could into one of them, after making sure things were well-watered. Tomorrow I will take another one, and do the same...all my roses are too big to try to cover, they are on their own..I am hoping it will only freeze for a few hours and the roses (and all the buds) will do okay.

Josephine, Arlington, TX(Zone 8a)

We put all the pots that I had taken out back in the garage last night at 10.30.
The temperature is 40 this morning, they are predicting another one of those
Snow Easters,
we will sit tight and see what happens.
Josephine.

Fort Worth, TX(Zone 8a)

We have snow in Fort Worth this morning! Cancelled my Easter hunt with the little ones until next week. Just can't see having anyone get out and trying to welcome Spring in this weather!!

Portland, TX(Zone 9a)

What is up with this silly Texas weather? I feel for you Texans up North of me. I'm located in South Texas near Corpus Christi and I don't think we will get anywhere near the cold that you guys get but I'm still debating on what may need to be brought inside. Where is Spring?????? I want to be out gardening not stuck in the house cause it's cool, rainy and windy. . . .

Crosbyton, TX(Zone 7a)

it snowed here...and more this evening is predicted....gotta love this stupid weather; i covered all tenders that i couldn't bring in....arrrgggh; i hope they all make it...in the mean time we have loads of coleus geranium spv you name it we have it in the house .....eeeeeee

Fort Worth, TX(Zone 8a)

Yeah!!! We didn't get a freeze!! It stayed at 40 all night and they have taken it out of our forcast for the future too!! I spent an hour or so out in the cold covering my blooming plants, but I didn't mind. Glad I don't have to do it again tonight! Happy Easter everyone!

NE Medina Co., TX(Zone 8a)

It got close here. We had occasional light sleet yesterday/last night and it got down to 32.7° last night. Our high during the day yesterday was about 38°.

......My bearded iris are all right before blooming out ...the daylily are in bud, salvias are blooming, crepe myrtle have a good set of leaves, small peaches on the trees,....my tropical cannas are up about a foot high, water lilies and water iris are ready for blooms, lotus have new leaves, some of the daturas and brugs are potted so I toted them and dug some of the trop cannas and took back to the greenhouse.....lots of work for an old woman working the gardens alone..
waited til about 8 at night hoping the strong winds would die down.......no luck, worked my tail off trying to put frost blankets over and anchoring them down over the things most precious to me...Was blessed as this tired old gal awoke Easter morning to above freezing weather.....Passover here...worked this morning ,thankfully folding and putting away the blankets...again

Josephine, Arlington, TX(Zone 8a)

Well, thank the Lord we were spared this time, I am very glad.
