tulips - after bloom

Berkeley, CA(Zone 9a)

My tulips have done their thing and now the leaves are beginning to die. After bloom, I did lightly fertilize for next season. They are all in pots, not in the garden. So, do I stop watering now and leave the pots alone till the end of the summer?
thanks.

Yes and no, it depends on what kind of rainfall you get there. Tulips are native to Turkey and want to be hot and dry in the summer. If you can provide that, then they'd probably be fine.

I hang mine from mesh bags from the rafters in an outbuilding that gets no water and stays hot. I would not keep them outdoors in pots simply because it looks bad to have pots of soil hanging around, and they would not get dry fast enough nor stay dry enough here because we have a lot of rainfall in summer, but California may be different.

Your bulbs will need a chilling period before they will bloom again in your zone. I believe it's 6 weeks but not sure. Also, it depends on the variety of bulbs. Some are meant to be used as annuals. I planted cheapies and they come back every year. I do nothing with them until the leaves yellow, then they get mowed off.
