How long does it usually take for brug seeds to germinate? The seeds are from 2004. Do you think they are too old? I've have them on a heat mat 2 weeks with no sign of anything.

Brug Seed Germination
It could take anywhere from a few days to a few months. :( I have some that I planted on February 21, and one just came up a day or two ago, so that's been over a month. I have others that are up within two weeks.
There's always the possibility that the seeds are no longer good. Did you peel the cork off the seeds before you planted them? If not, peel the cork off and see if the seeds are still firm or if they are mushy. If they are mushy, then they aren't good anymore.
I think patience is the key when germinating brug seeds!! Good luck to you!
You might want to dig one of them out, peal it and make sure there is a seed inside, I waited a month, no sign of life after digging them up and pealing them 3 of the 4 were empty, last year I had fresh seeds that took over two months to germinate.

I'll try digging some back up and checking. Some are crosses and the seeds were hard and black with no shell on them. Does this sound right?
Peg
no it doesn't, brug seeds are most of the time dark brown, with a cork like shell, you can soak, and peal, or you can break a small corner off with thunb nail and then you should see a light brown seed, rather small, yours sound more like my lily seeds.
Amazing something so ugly can turn out to be so pretty.

Kareoke...I've sent you an e-mail explaining. You are probably right that they are lily seeds..Do You think they are still good.
Peg
I would think so, plant them anyway, at least they will come up ever year, Thanks for email, I answered it *S*
