Some Irid Species Way Down South

west Houston, TX(Zone 9a)

I'm really surprised some of these are doing so well this year--we have had unbelievable amounts of rain this winter and spring.

Thought I'd post a few Iridaceae species and everyone can pitch in with what they have blooming.

Here's a Herbertia pulchella on the back patio. This one is "going down fast" today--but alas, I had to work all day so could not get a fresh shot--maybe Friday. After all, I do have to work so I can buy more bulbs, right?

Here's some Cypella herbertia--another one that I was under the impression preferred a drier winter. Which it definitely did not get. Good thing bulbs don't read books.

A Nemastylus geminiflora which obviously does enjoy the rain--since it's soaking wet.

A Herbertia lahue which difficult to get a decent picture of.

Some red Freesia laxa's and a couple of pots of Herbertia pulchella off the back porch.

And lo and behold, I think this Freesia leichtlinii from seed (second season) might actually bloom for Easter.

Mmm, can't choose which I like the best, love them all! Those Freesias are doing well!

I have Cooperia pedunculata popping up all over!

You'll love it too--it's such a good grower and LOVES rain! =)

I will have many more rain lily species seeds for you over the next 6 months!

Those red laxa's are also difficult to photograph--they always seem to look like I'm playing on the "paint" program.

Cameras hate red, it can work with the right light conditions if you can find it. It's amazing how many flowers they produce in such a short time.

Nemastylus geminiflora looks a real cutie, how hardy is that? I'm not familiar with it.

Hey, it's 'hot' here today, 17C already in my dapple shade, this will make things grow. Still have seeds to puts in, all jobs beckon at once!
