hard freeze coming what do I need to cover/protect?

Frederick, MD(Zone 6b)

We've got temps down to 26 or 27 degrees in the forecast Thursday through Sunday nights here... That's slightly better than the low of 23 they were forecasting for Friday night just yesterday... but still, yikes!

My daffs have started blooming, other daffs have started budding.

First-year Hyacinths are coming up and budding.

Lilies have poked tender-looking tips out of the ground.

Species tulips are also poking up, and some water lily tulips started blooming yesterday.

Which of these will not bloom -- or worse yet, die -- if I do not try to protect them? (I'm thinking mulch and/or row cover... but I know I won't get to all of them.)

Thanks for any advice!

Yes, here in my area on the news channels they are advising to cover all plants to protect them. Use sheets, blankets, old tablecloths, boxes, trashcans, flowerpots, etc....anything that will offer protect to the plants from the cold and possible frost.

We are to drop down tonight and tomorrow night to the low 20's during the night and we have a freeze warning alert.

Thanks, Nana....

I was hoping it might be less important for some... I know crocus and iris reticulata will go right on blooming after freezing temps (mine got covered up by the last snowfall and weren't fazed by it).

My few plants will croak. I cannot possibly cover them but I did bring tender plants in pots inside, and will move pots of tender bulbs into the root cellar.

One night our low is predicted at 12ºF.

While I certainly agonize over the plants, buds formed on shrubs, etc., I also wonder if I have enough firewood to keep ME warm.

Critterologist,
My husband and I got out and covered as many plants as we thought would suffer from the cold or frost. We did not cover the crocus, Iris reticulata, Grape Hyacinths. We also did not have enough things to use to cover all the plants we have, so it was just a toss up of what we felt we just couldn't lose and what might be replaceable. We also did not cover any shrubs. My Azaelas are in full bloom but I just did not have enough to cover them and I had enjoyed their blooms for several days now....so they did not get covered.
I hope we are lucky and don't lose much.

12 degrees!! Oh, Darius! At those temps, I don't think covering would save much even if it were possible...

I'm hoping that the freeze will be less severe than predicted... and that we'll all be able to save at least a few lovelies from its effects!

Yeah, I'm hoping the weatherliars are wrong here too.

I sure hope they are wrong too, no way can I cover everything:(Anita
