Hi,
What is going on with this currant plant?
What is wrong with this currant?
Essentialplanet, this looks very similar to what my currants do when I have a breakout of aphids. They cause the leaves to grow irregularly and turn red in the areas they have been feeding. Your problem looks minor, if it is aphids. Look at the underside of the leaves closely, but they might have moved on or become a predator's lunch. Aphids cause the leaves to look bad, but don't seem to do much damage. If you find out that it's something else, please let us know.

Hi Krowten,
Thanks for your input, but I don't believe it is aphids... I did inspect the plant, no sign of infestation.
It looks like a relative of peach leaf curl to me; never heard of such a thing on currants, though. If it is related it will not get much worse and spray copper next winter to kill it.
Scott
Hi Scott,
Thanks! I will look into that!
It doesn't exactly look like it to me, but currants are less popular in this country because they can host White Pine Blister Rust. Have you checked the under the leaves?
