Bee/Hornet Cure

Burleson, TX(Zone 8a)

Really really need new relatives. OK I can understand how the penny works at neutralizing the acid from an insect bite of this type. I would also think that it would do the same for ant bites as well, scorpions and all those critters that release large doses of acid when they sting. So take it for what its worth. As for me I would get some carb cleaner and get rid of the little suckers myself, but then thats just me. :)

A couple of weeks ago I was unfortunate enough to get stung by both
a bee and hornet while working in the garden.

My arm swelled up so off to the doctor I went. The clinic gave me
cream and an antihistamine.
The next day the swelling was getting progressively worse so off to
my regular doctor I went.
Infected arm - needed an antibiotic. What was interesting is what
the Dr. told me. The next time you get stung put a penny on the bite for
15 minutes. I thought, wow next time (if there ever is one) I will try
it.

Well that night Shelley's niece got stung by two bees. When she
came over to swim I looked at the bite and it had already started to
swell. So off I went to get my
money. Taped a penny to her arm for 15 minutes. The next morning,
there was no sign of a bite. Wow were we surprised. Her niece we
decided, just
wasn't allergic to the sting.

Well guess what happened again on Saturday night. I was helping
Shelley deadhead her flowers and
guess what? You are right I got stung again two times by a hornet
on my left hand. Was I ticked. I thought, here I go again having to go
to the
doctor for yet another antibiotic.

Well I promptly went into the house, again got my money out, and
taped two pennies to my bites and then sat and sulked for 15 minutes. The
penny
took the sting out of the bite immediately.
I still wasn't sure what was going to happen. In the meantime the
hornets were attacking Shelley and she got stung on the thumb. Again the
penny. The next morning I could only see the spot where he had stung
me. No redness, no swelling. Went over to see
Shelley and hers was the same. Couldn't even tell where she got
stung. Then Shelley got stung again on Monday night on her back---cutting
the grass.

This penny thing i s going to make us money at school. Again it
worked.

Just wanted to share the marvelous information in case any of you
are experiencing the same problem at home. We need to have a stock of
pennies on hand at school and at home.

The Dr. said somehow the copper in the penny counteracts the bite.
I would never had believed it.
But it definitely does work.

So remember this little bit of wisdom and pass it on to your
friends, children, grandchildren, etc.

Thank you very much Snipe, I know how painful and annoying those stings can be.

Yesterday I used poison (forgive me) on fireant beds numbers 9 and 10 (so far this spring) and next time (yes, there WILL be a next time...) I'll have a penny handy and let you know. I can barely type right now from the ant bites on my fingers from this weekend. ggrrrrrrrrrrrrrr...

I'd never heard of this but will give it a try next time I get stung.

Green light makes a liquid that uses several types of peppers that is supposed to be for mosquitoes which i tried and it burned up plants as well but it did wonders on fire ants. I mixed it in a gallon jug as the directions say to for the dilution ratio and poured it on the ant beds and the ants were dead and gone in less than an hour. I usually only poured about 3 or 4 cups of the solution on each mound. Wasn't worth a flip on the skeeters but it worked great on the ants.

Wow, I will certainly try that penny remedy. Thanks for sharing. :)

snipe, I wonder if I could just make a solution of last year's dried and ground peppers. They're so hot you almost can't cook with them. I've also poured vinegar (normal white vinegar from the grocery store) directly on the mounds and it does the job, but it also kills the grass.

Burleson, TX(Zone 8a)

Well where fire ants are concerned anything is worth a try.

Ain't it the truth! My hands are stiff and aching from the bites I got over the weekend. I didn't realize the pots of passiflora I had just gotten from HD were full of them. Grrrrrr....

Ain't like a box of Cracker Jack's you say. LOL

Don, you may be on to something - are fireants edible? By humans, not anteaters, I mean - LOL.

Checking he garden and grabbing a snack at the same time, eh?

Lumberton, TX(Zone 8b)

I've tried. It's impossible to keep them on the skewers.

Deep East Texas, TX(Zone 8a)

I noticed they kept falling thru the grate on the grill...

Lumberton, TX(Zone 8b)

They do add a spicy crunch to cole slaw, though!

Or as my best friend used to say, you can pick your friends and you can pick your nose, but you can't pick your friend's nose.

Crazy Texans ... I'm going to train me an armadillo and make mega bucks renting her out.

(Don't throw ants at me I'm trying to be funny, but I don't really have a sense of humor)

"I'm going to train me an armadillo..."

What do you mean, you don't have a sense of humor!?!?!?!

Pocahontas, TN(Zone 7b)

Lord Have Mercy, I don't ever "catch" jokes, they just fly right over my head. Maybe a day or two later it will dawn on me, maybe not.
