Yellow leaves on my Holliana

Claremont, NC

Hello everyone,
I am so sorry for another question, but here it is. I have had this cute little plant for a few weeks. It has a lot of long branches and some of the leaves are turning yellow. I have it to the side of a south window with a covered porch so it isn't getting too much sun but indirect bright light. I have a cheapy water/light meter and it registers about half way between dry and wet. The soil is my own and it has alot of perlite in it. Does it need more light than I am giving it, more or less water, please give me some advice so I don't kill it :(
Thank you,
Sandi

(Just my story, not advice!)

Sandi, I had the best luck with mine when it was in full sun in the a.m. and part of the afternoon (south-east facing window). When I found out how to "properly" look after it (what you're doing) was when I had these same problems, and mine finally died. It didn't like going back into the sun either though, so who knows it may have had other issues I wasn't aware of. Hope somebody knowledgeable can help - I'd like to get another but am a little gun shy of this one now.

Sandi...first of all, I would check the roots. If they are rotten, you can start over again with healthy parts of the plant....

cv. Holliana seem to be related to H. carnosa....I would let it get drier between waterings and I would grow it in less light: #1 it is variegated and usually variegates take less light, and, #2 carnosas and their kin seem to like less light...more shade.

Thank you Christine and Carol,
I believe the roots are ok because It came with no pot and I was able to see them when I potted it, but I will check them again just to be sure. I will let it dry out more and I have the best place to hang it.

I had trouble with this one too....and eventually gave up on it. Same kind of problem. I got another one over the weekend and am going to see if I do any better.
