What the heck is this??Supposed to be a baby strep?

Northeast, NE(Zone 5a)

Awhile back I put down a few leaves of King Of Kings Strep.Well when I went to pot up the babies yesterday..one of them was this..anybody have any idea as to how this plant could come from a strep leaf? What should I do with it?Will it grow to looklike a normal strep in time? I'm puzzled..Thanks for any help!! Nancy

It doesn't look like a strep to me. Maybe you've got some brand new species or something LOL I'd just pot it up and see what happens.

LOL Yeah Stownes it sure seems weird to me that all the other babies look just like my king of kings mama but this one ugly duckling has variegated leaves and the leaves don't even look like a streps to me.Time will tell I guess.I am going to just let it be like you said and see what it becomes..Thanks for replying.

Looks like an "alien" seed was in with the soil or something! It sure doesn't look like any Strep I've ever seen! I am REAL curious as to what that turns out to be! Never know .... might just be some Beautiful Surprise Plant!

Emporia, KS(Zone 5b)

How cool! Keep us updated on it, okay? : D

Northeast, NE(Zone 5a)

LOL I will definitely keep you updated on what the little alien plant grows into.I bet you are right Lin about a seed of something being in the soil.It was so weird though..it was lined up attached to the mom leaf just like the rest.Guess he just wanted me to think he was one of the family.I thought.."you can't belong..not with leaves like that"lol

Lindenhurst, NY

That's freakish looking:-) Wonder what it is? I would love to see if it flowers.

Maureen,I have no idea either what it is but its growing really good and has the prettiest variegated leaves. I am keeping it around to see if it will bloom.Just wait..any second now someone will see it and tell me its a common weed!LOL

That is such a neat surprise, cedarnest! How fun! I can't wait to find out what you've got there. You've got me so curious. Please post pics of it's progress.

Will do Snowrose.I just hope its not a weed or something LOL

we love pics....can't wait to see what she does!!!

I'm wondering if that may be a Peperomia.
Some of them do self-seed very 'prolifically'!

Funny that it was 'nursing', though, LOL!!

Do you have a picture update for us, cedar? I just found this thread, but I'm really anxious to see what it turns out to be!

Northeast, NE(Zone 5a)

Nan,I guess it could be just about anything.Wouldn't it be something if it was a Peperomia?I don't have any of them.Wonder if a renegade seed just came in the vermiculite I use to start leaves? It wouldn't surprise me.I wonder how it got there? All the questions I have...Oh another lifes great mystery LOL

Amy,Melissa and Gail,It hasn't grown much since the picture I posted above.I am keeping an eye on it .Its looking nice and happy though.I wish my camera would have shown the leaves better. The leaves have a real pretty variegation to them.I will post more pics as it grows more : ))

SW, WI(Zone 4b)

Hmm....if you don't have any Pep's then it's not likely......just making this mystery more and more interesting!
Do you have anything else around there that my have self-sown?
(as if you haven't thought of that already...;)

Nan,I have been racking my brain.Looking all over my plants for its real mommy. It doesn't look like an av.I do have some chiritas(spadiformus, hisako, and kazu) none of them have ever bloomed for me yet tho Does it look like a chirita?

You know, it almost looks like one of my Syngoniums. It's neat whatever it is. :o)

I'm not sure if it looks like a Strep ?? Did you grow it by seed ?

Clemmons, NC(Zone 7b)

Hrd to tell from the pic, but have you ever grown caladmium or diffenbachia (sp) in that soil? Looks a lot like a diffie to me

Northeast, NE(Zone 5a)

Hi Robin,No I removed it from a King Of Kings Strep leaf I had down. While i was potting the babies up this one was right in line and was attached to the mother leaf or seemed to be just like the rest of the kids. I just knew this couldn't be a strep. All the other babies look just like mom.A seed of something or other must have been in there because I don't even own a plant that looks anything like this baby. Its a puzzle to me. oh I don't really care what it is.It is cute looking so I am keeping an eye on it to see what it grows up to be.

Northeast, NE(Zone 5a)

Tropicanna, Thanks.I have never had any caladmium or diffenbachia but that does really look like it could be something like that.I need to go look at some pictures.

Amy I don't have any Syngoniums either. But it looks like it could be something like that too.

I have since received some foliage plants from Lin : )) That look sorta like it but this came up way before I received them from her....puzzled...

Northeast, NE(Zone 5a)

Thanks Tropicanna,I just did a quick look over aaron and wouldn't it be neat if thats what it is?
Fancy-leafed Caladium, *Angel Wings*, *Heart of Jesus*,
It really struck me.because.It came off with the babies of the leaf of my *King Of Kings strep* How fitting would that be??I have chills!

This is so neat .

Clemmons, NC(Zone 7b)

Wow-very interesting. Is the plant a slow grower?
