Hi Garden Friends!

Midway, TX(Zone 8b)

Howdy Ya'll! I've been MIA for a while now. I broke my leg and had to have a bone graft. Ugh! So I have not been able to do a thing toward getting my gardens ready for spring. :(
It sure is hard to sit in this house and look out at all the blooms I have right now. My Mother is cleaning out her garden beds and getting ready for new plants that she has ordered.
I may have to hire a gardener this year. That is if I can find one. Dh has enough to do just trying to keep everything mowed and tending to the cows.
My leg is coming along excellent. I still have to wear this boot thingy. It's heavy and now it's beginning to get hot. My xray recently showed the bone graft working. So I've got new bone forming now. I don't know how long I will be confined to house and boot. My Ortho doc had to put in rod, plate, and screws so it will just take time.

Ya'll post lots of pics so I can at least get my Garden Fix. ;) I will be reading about what all ya'll are planting this year. I sure have missed everybody. ;)

Happy Spring!

What a horrible thing to have to go thru! Looks like you have a gardener....LOL You are indeed fortunate about so many things. Enjoy what you see. You'll be out there before you know it. The best to you

I hurt my foot last year and was hobbling around for the longest time, but it was nothing compared to what you've had to endure. Take it easy and pamper yourself...

Oh Dancey how awful! I hope you get all healed up ASAP!

I shudder to think my DDH could do the gardening, he wouldn't know a Dandelion from a Corepsis lol

Welcome back!

I hope you get well soon, here is a pretty picture for you.

Aww...sorry to hear about your leg, Dancey. I know what it is like not being able to get out there and lose yourself in gardening. We'll keep you well posted with photos and events.... :) Hope you're enjoying Spring anyway.. :)

Dancey, I'm sorry to hear about your leg and how much it hobbles your love of gardening. I know exactly what you are going though. I broke my ankle in 3 places by stepping into a hidden cow trail as we were tending to a newborn calf. Eight months later another surgery to remove the plates and screws. Maybe you can hire someone to tend to your most valuable plants. Once you have healed, you can go wild.

Thank you all for your good wishes. ;) I am doing good. Enjoying the pretty flower pics you posted. Thanks

Bettydee I read your post that you had another surgery to remove all the hardware. Oh mercy I hope I don't have to have that done. My Ortho doc didn't say anything about removing that stuff. Maybe he just didn't want me to get upset. I've never had anything like this happen to me so I have no idea what all the procedures are. I should have asked him a lot more questions.

Sure sorry to hear about all that, Dancey! I guess I'd use the time to become an expert on some aspect of gardening I really love, like companion planting. Shame on the rest of us for complaining we don't have the time to read all we want! Here's you a rose... Easy Going...

Dancey, titanium is used because we don't react to it and it is usually left in place. I was having trouble getting my ankle to move properly with the hardware in. Plus there is almost no fat or muscle around the ankle so the metal got very cold that winter. I discovered that cold bone hurts a lot. I had to wait until the bone had healed before the plates and screws could be removed because removal weakes the bone until the holes left by the screws fill back in.

I had an excellent orthopedist and surgeon, but one without good bedside manners. I had to resort to writing down all my questions and telling him I needed answers. That seemed to work. Having the questions written down helped me remember and the doctor seemed more willing to answer prepared questions. I guess he figured I wasn't going to waste his time hems and haws.

There will be another spring. Time will pass and there will be plants to prune and deadhead. In the meantime, the beauty of nature and flowers can still send you to a special place only you understand. Birds will sing and butterflies will fly in that special place!

Linda, is that a Columbine? How pretty. Is there a certain one that grows here? I have not had any luck with them, but have always loved them.

Dancey...Im so sorry for you! What a bummer to not be able to go out and enjoy your own garden.

I'll go out and do a little moon boogie in mine right now and think of you. Maybe it'll help.

Hope you're not in too much pain.

That's the Texas Gold Columbine, originally found only in the mountains of west Texas. I'll bet you could grow it!

Thanks Linda, I'll try it.

I hope all these great flower pics help you feel better.

Brigid thank you for the beautiful rose. My favorite color. ;) Linda your Columbine is absolutely gorgeous. Wish I could grow those here.

I talked to my Ortho doctors nurse yesterday and she said seldom does he take the hardware out. Some times in certain cases he does. I have an excellent doctor with fortunately a good bedside manner so I can ask him anything. But I always make a list of my questions and he reads them and answers them for me. I just never thought to ask him how long overall this would take and what all it entailed. Silly me. I guess I thought in about two maybe three months I would be up walking again and could go right on. lol Not! I'm not in much pain at all now and I'm sure glad. Actually the RA has bothered me more than anything when I had to use the walker and wheelchair. I also had to stop two of my arthritis meds during this time too.

Anyway as I look out my kitchen window this morning I see my very first Mr. Lincoln rose bloom of the season. What a pretty sight. My red Knockout roses are blooming too. Even though I can't get out and roam around and dig I can still enjoy the beauty of them.
