Capillary Mats

(Zone 1)

Anyone have any info you can share on Capillary Mats for AV's? Do any of y'all use these and are they a good investment, and do you still have to have wicks coming out of the pots? Are they expensive? Sources for purchasing them and the trays they would go in? I would really appreciate any advice y'all can give!

Thanks,

I don't use them yet but Lucille uses thermal blankets cut into squares for hers. She also has them wicked. That's all I know.

I know we've discussed these a few times - you might want to search this forum to see what you pull up?

Hi There;
I have been useing it for some time now & find it's great for young plants.i bought mine from charley's greenhouse, was'ent all that expensive. i use to use an old blanket but they get so nasty looking.i know alot of people do use the old blankets.i like the cap mats as they are green & always look good.they are washable & stay nice.i just fill the flat with enough water to cover the mat & the plants drink it up.hope this helps

Thanks!

Mrsbonnie: Do you use the wicks in your pots too, or do the cappillary mats alone allow water to be pulled up into the soil from the bottom of the pots?

i do have some that are wicked , usually they come that way, but not all of them & they still drink.I only keep them on the cap mat until they are well established.
