I've got a few edible fig trees - Celeste and Conadria - which I'll grow in containers this year. I may stick one in the ground, but we'll see. Please tell me about your container-grown fig experiences. I assume that the minimum size pot that I'll need is 10 gallon, would you agree? If you've got photos to share, all the better!
I'm guessing that my figs will require larger pots than my brugmansias? This will be my first time growing either one of them.
Thanks in advance for your replies.
Growing Fig Trees in Containers
I think it depends on how big your figs are already.
I just pot mine up one size at a time as they grow. You should get figs from trees in containers as small as 1 gallon. I have three trees, all of which produced figs last year, none bigger than 3 gallon.
They are in 1 gal. and 3 gal. nursery pots right now. As with most othe plants, I would normally do the same as you and gradually increase the size of the pot, but I was given a tip to put figs directly into large containers.
They only broke from dormancy about two weeks ago and have begun to leaf out, yet I noticed that they already have bitty baby figs beginning to develop as well. I'm so excited.
Depending on the growing conditions and the variety of fig, you may want to consider removal of the breba crop.
Edited to say that it looks like Conadria and Celeste both produce light breba crops.

Thanks, Stressbaby. I'll remove most of the breba crop, but do want to keep one or two as an experiment.
