comical!

Monticello, GA

I got to thinking,,I do not know any animal that does not like peanut butter... I put a little on my finger and let my chicks peck it.They seemed to like it,,smacked their beaks a bit,,, then started to swipe their beaks on the floor litter or anything near,,,really comical looking,,I laughed for a bit , then figured they liked the taste, but did not like that their beaks were sticky!
Funny now though, I think they enjoyed it, just maybe too soon! Really they are 3 distinct personalities. I named the boss hen , Henreitta, the middle one, Hortense and the smallest, isHave-at-it ... Really great birds , these Rhode Island Reds.

Dublin, TX(Zone 8a)

Too funny turkeybeard. I've never thought of trying that before............I bet they hated their beards all sticky! lololol Try them on a mealworm or waxworm, that will give you a good laugh too. LUV the names, post us some pics, would ya?

LOL funny!

I have done it to my dogs and they keep licking the roofs of their mouths for minutes. Slurp Slurp - Made me laugh - totally. LMEO

Thought I would get them some crickets! They destroy and fight over any moth or other bug that enters pen...When should I start them on some grit for digestion? Just thought if I start feeding a few insects, they might need some grit!...???

Eatonton, GA(Zone 8b)

Hey Turkeybeard, I 've already let mine roam , within the protection of the little bird netted aluminum frame "Tractor" I fixed for them! they are eating grit and Dusting, so I would think since your Astrolorpes were Hatched at the same time as mine, you can give them grit( I buy new play sand ) or let them on the ground to find their own!
I havent given mine Crickets , but when Im digging in the garden area, I have found an abundance of ding dang ,grubs! I just put them in a container and when there are a few I take them to the chicks!!! All Heck breaks loose!!! sO fUnNy!!!!! Hahaha!

schickenlady, that is exactly what they do to dogs and cats to get them to "talk" in commercials. THen all they have to do is dub in a voice!

turkeybeard, as long as the gals have some dirt in their home enviroment ~ outsideo f thier coop or whatever, they will get whatever grit they need. Have you seen them take dust baths yet? That iss o funny!

Awwwww! Hey Turkey Beard, Dont you want the other two, or possibly 3 that I have left?? My girls are really growing fast now and I just am not going to have enough room for everybody!
I am hoping to find a pair of White Palm turkeys, know of any one close that might have some?

Monticello, GA

Maybe? I have to see what these araucanna look like @ Monticello feed...
I also have limited space. I gotta still find the time to build a coop and space to roam. I don't want more than 8 layers, got 6 now and and GEEEz! each one is more needy than a puppie,,,gotta see me , gotta pet me, you just gotta let me sit on your hand and poop!
I love it!!! Been kinda lost w/out a pet since I had to put my dog down. Sure do miss him! Been 2 years come June. His name was Opie,,,best dog that ever was.
Not that anyone cares but but here is his pic.

Awwww Turkey Beard!!! We Care, very much! A good Dog is a friend or I should say ,a Family member! It takes a good while to ease the loss! Just remember all the good things, and with Pups, most all memories are good ones! He was definitely a character, just look at that face!
As for the chicks, They are really growing! With the temps going down again tonight, I am having to put a light out in the barn for them again. I will have to close them in together,in a pup tent with the light to keep the warmth in. so they will be crowded now! So I f you want the astrolrpes ( 3 for sure) They are yours!

Dublin, TX(Zone 8a)

turkeybeard..............no one cares, are you KIDDING me????? You are chatting with the chicken lovers of the world! lol No really, all of us are obviously animal nuts or we wouldn't spend our time chatting about our feathered friends. I know what you mean about the best dog ever. They only come along once in a great while. I have two tiny toy poodles who literally rule the roost around here. One however, is the spoiled brat of the family, Gracee. Rotten, rotten, rotten to the core. :) She is also my momma hen to the brooder chicks. She keeps them all rooted under the brooder light - - - quite comical to watch. Thanks for sharing Opie's pic with us. Good looking dog.

Thanks (TexasGardenmom) Belinda,. Yes , I can tell, Gracee is rotten.
But , could she be ant other way?
Dogs just seem to have a way to know what is expected of them.

And Eufaula, I have met your pooch, and he did not want me to take the australorps away! Yep! I am not sure that he knows he is a dog. Me thinks there is a little chicken in him!~ LOL! He is a character. He wanted to come home with me and the chicks.

I have never heard of white palm turkey,,, but Monticell feed is gonna have bronze turkeys April 9. Do you have any buff orpingtons left? I have a friend that wants a couple.

Eatonton, GA(Zone 8b)

Hey Turkey bird, Uh I Mean Turkey beard! Yep you might be right , Mr. pepe does seem to have a bit of Chicken Blood in him!!Lol!!! Especially when the neighbors big old Tom cat comes over to aggravate him!!!!
I meant to say Royal Palm Turkey! They are white with black Markings, really pretty.
Yep I have two Buffs left. They are almost fully feathered in now and have almost turned to there grown color! Heres one last weekend!

Turkeybeard, auracaunas are BEAUTIFUL and you should really take Eufula up on it if you can. The one I had was sort of like if you took a golden eagle and magically zapped it into a chicken. Except with ear tufts and a chicken beard. See? You'd both be bearded. It's a match made in heaven.

and if we are dragging out the bragging pix on our fabulous canine friends, here is our bebe, Shackleton. He's a 45 lb. mutt from the Carribean. He is a good chicken ignorer, but i think his smell cuts down on critters eating the ladies. He totally ignores the chickens (other than eating thier poop occasionally ~ everyone has their bad habits I guess! LOL) but sometimes he will run in towards to dorr, and the girls will happen to be in the way and he just barrels through. THen he gives ne a doggie grin when he sees them fussing.

Dang!!! have you got any wabbits? backyardhens! That is cute... but find some wings and a comb to put on his head...LOL,,is he one of those dogs that you can dressup and just sits there looking like , why are these people laughing so hard?

Eufaula? What you asking for those 1/4 grown buffs now? I got a friend in Decatur wants a couple.

Antrim, NH

I think you might be right. He's a heinz 57 variety mutt, but he sure does look beagley, doesn't he?I actually found a chicken costume for him. I'll have to have him pose for you :)

Dublin, TX(Zone 8a)

What CUTE pics...............see, Turkeybeard and you thought we didn't care! Come on now, surely you knew better! :)
