Serpens question

Claremont, NC

I have read it likes to stay on the cool side, which I guess than means no bright hot sun, and it likes moist air around it. The question is does it like to have wet soil or do I let it dry out. Anything else you can tell me would be wonderful.
Thank you,
Sandi
Also, does it spread or will I have to do cuttings, it is very small right now.

Sandi, serpens does like to be in full shade with only indirect light. As to temperature, I can tell you that mine thrives outside in SF where temp.s run from the 50's to the 70's during the day and the 40's to 50's (generally) at night throughout the year. It does spread out and will root where it touches soil. Mine stays quite wet, and seems to like it- I use a very light mix however. I would never let it dry out completely. I've heard of people having success with growing this plant in warmer conditions too, so you will need to experiment to get it growing happily, probably.

Thank you for the info, very helpful.

Sandi, I have mine in the bathroom. It sits in the window and gets eastern exposure. It's one that has gone nuts since using the beer formula, I even have two peduncles with buds! I leave the bathroom light on at night so it gets nearly 24hr. light. I am not recommending this, just telling you how I grow mine. Our bathroom is not heated so it stays around 55-65 degrees. I also keep my H. mathilde along side it and it is growing like crazy too. God bless, -joannne

I'll have to look into that beer stuff, can't stand the taste or smell but if it helps the plants, what the heck.
55-65 degrees, WOW, that must make for a pretty cold shower! Our house is usually between 68-75 degrees.
Thank you again,
Sandi
