I thought I would start a new thread on this topic. I recently tried a new combo of plants in a container for the butterflies, moths, and hummers. I do know the Monarch Butterflies have been using it. (Found some cats on the MW.)
In the pot are Milkweed (back), Red Salvia (center) and Red Petunia (front). I am also trying to grow some Red Nasturtiums in the pot, too. But I think I planted the seeds too deep. I'm gonna try again.
I like red and I think it is not only useful for the critters, but also rather pretty!
I would love to see more container photos of plants used for hummers and butterflies! Hanging baskets, too!
Container gardens for Butterflies and Hummers
But the plant that has me MOST impressed and I have come to find a new love for are my Nasturtiums. They are a host plant for the Great Southern White Butterflies and the hummer moths love the flowers at night! They've been in these 3 potsgoing over a year now. They don't like to be moved. So I just left them and OH MY! did they surprise me with their beautiful flowing growth, blooms, and spread. I LOVE them!!!! ♥♥
Love the nasturtiums!! Have three tiny plants in a container, surrounding my ice cream banana plant. One flower so far. Really pretty and looking forward to them spreading.
I have nasties planted all over. They're VERY good companions for almost everything.
