"Claire de Lune"
Starring in my Gardens today!
Can I just come camp in your garden Jean? ( just kidding) Those are just georgeous!
Lovely, Lovely, Lovely.
Great showing of the beauties.
Oh, I am breathless!
wowie wow wow ! Very nice... you must stay outside all day long. I'd be going outside to peek on them all the time !!!
I fertilized my lovelies today! We're just a bit behind you I think, but another nice sunny day today.
What should I be fertilizing with?
Jeanne said rose or tomato food - and whatever she says obviously works... typically I had just used an all purpose,
but this year I'll follow Jeanne's lead.
(plus I put down composted steer manure & compost in Feb.) - I believe she said she did the same.
What a wonderful feast for the eyes!! Just gorgeous.
Thanks everyone..I am just sick!!..I was sitting here earlier today writing out my bills and postdating them 4/01 to mail out on Saturday and noticed I put the month of 4 on my pics..boohoo..I ruined 'em....Jeanne
Jeanne, your collection is fabulous! Just start the thread again on 4-29, we'll love to see them, and pretend we haven't seen them before. lol
Hey Jeanne,
I think I remember you saying something about putting rose fertilzer on clematis last year..is this right? I put some granules on mine.
Rj
Jeanne, have a couple of martinis and it won't matter what month it is :>)
Lovely collection of Clem. Jeanne. Congrats.
Rj...I sure do or tomato fertilizer..I bought a huge bag at Sam's for about 12 bucks and my clematis and roses have responded to that just beautifully...so I alternate..thanks everyone...Jeanne
Hey Rj...my "Clerodendrum Ugandense" hasn't leafed out yet or come back from the roots..is that normal?..TIA

No, it should be leafing out..what are the night time temps? Not to worry I have 9 or so blooming now if you need another.
I put put the fertilizer on the clematis..and it is climbing. I know the story about hide the roots, but do they need full sun..mine are sliding into part sun with the trees filling out.
Oh rats!!..And I mulched it up really good too..that makes me sick!! Boohoo..I was so tickled over my little blooms last year too!!
" I know the story about hide the roots, but do they need full sun..mine are sliding into part sun with the trees filling out."
Shading the roots really means that they want to stay moist..staying ontop of our watering ..especially in the hot summer is key...I have a few that get brown crispy leaves in Summer if I don't!!..I am constantly sticking my finger in the soil near mine to check and if it's drying out...I water..especially my raised beds..the ones that I have in pots have a drip system which they just LOVE....Jeanne
hmmm...never thought about growing them in pots..good idea...
Well don't give up on him yet...the clerodendrum need about a 55 average night time temp to start stirring. They also like alot of water. I was overly successful in propagating it last year so have several on the trade shelf ready to ship.

My blue butterfly clero you gave me is leafing & greening up nicely. It's about a foot tall; he is almost hidden behind my snaps at the moment. This cold winter was really hard on it; I was so glad when I noticed I wasn't going to lose it. It looked like a bare stick for awhile. How fast will it grow once our temp's start warming up? I thought I read where it is a fast grower.
It will grow like a weed Patty.
Mine that was closest to the sidewalk in front, was most fried by the cold is even coming back. It was mulched good, so all of them I have are coming back. It could be Jeannes wasn't quite big enough..for the winter...keep checking it Jeanne
Mine CU has not shown any signs of life yet. How cold did it get where you all are?
It froze solid here 28F fried everything, although 99 percent of things are coming back, even a few papaya trees.
Let me know if yours doesn't..I have some to share.
It got down to at least 19 and probably less. (not typical for here though)
Yes, wasn't typical here either..and it was 69F the next day...
Geez!! Nothing like confusing the plants!
I think we got to 30 degrees in my area, and my CU is on the north side of the house but I had it mulched pretty well.
Oh good RjI can't wait for it to grow and get big enough to see. All my background plants are small and I'm having to wait patiently . . . well not so patiently . . . for them to grow. Even my abutilon is hidden behind the snaps. I'm hoping everything will take off with warmer weather.
Is your abutilon in the ground? Mine is chocked full of buds ..but it's in a pot...I want it in ground...part sun?
Yes mine is in the ground in part sun. I bought a very small one last year at WM I think--"Bella" cultivar-- probably about six inches tall to begin with and now it's about a foot tall and it has bloomed awhile. I am hoping it will also start taking off this spring. I think these must be fairly hardy because mine never dropped leaves and looked good all winter. It's bloomed for quite some time; I think it may even have seed pods; I need to check. On the left side of the front flower bed, I've got several background plants that just need to grow in order for the bed to look good (clero ugan, cestrum, abutilon, & panama rose & a brug which has actually started to take off); right now with the exception of the morning glory bush, most of them are hidden behind my snaps; doesn't look balanced. patience is not one of my virtues . . . I should buy bigger size plants I guess . . . I need a bigger pocketbook to support my gardening addiction.
naaa..it's Texas...they'll be big enough soon.. My problem here...everything grows enormous..even my castor bean is a tree. Like I said..bring your truck Patty!
Clematis on parade! Each one is a star!!
