Can you help?

Gulfport, MS(Zone 8a)

My mom is currently going through her third round of breast cancer. She recently retired (due to health) and is in quite a slump.

She needs something other than her cancer to keep her focused and I think plants would do the trick. If anybody can spare anything I would forever be appreciative!!

p.s. If you are able to do something, please dmail me and I'll dmail her addy!

More info, please... containers? sun? shade? favorite flower or favorite color? fragrance a plus?

Her front yard faces N and has 1 huge sago palm and some monkey grass? The back yard is full sun, all day and hotter than the hubs of hell, lol. She has a few pots of cactus. The yard is fenced on the east and west sides (courtesy of the neighbors, lol). She has a row of hydrangea on the west fence line.

Container plants would be great, actually. I worry about her being in the sun and the affects of the sun with chemo.

Ya know, I'm not sure I know what her favorite flower is. Knowing her, probably tulips, lol.

Fragrance would be nice but I think with the heat of summer, something that will survive the heat with minimal care would be best for her.

She's in zone 8 so most things could survive with minimal overwintering.

I sure appreciate the responses I've gotten and the concern for Mom!!

You need to ask her her favorite flower, color, does she have a lot of room for shade plants? This sounds like a lot of work for you! lol I'm sure you don't mind though you know how DG'ers are! She will have plants coming out of her ears lol

I imagine I'll be getting frequent calls from her asking what different plants are, lol. Right now, she doesn't have any shade at all!

I have three confirmed boxes being sent. She's going to be busy for a while!!!

She's too funny, lol.

I asked what her favorite flower is and at first she said iris (amazingly thats mine too!!), then she said peony (don't grow in MS) and then she said "Well, dang, I don't know", lol. She went on to say that anything that is long blooming and easy care, but she likes unique foliage plants also.

Same with favorite colors. No certain like or dislike.

Funny, I never knew how much our gardening tastes were the same!

Wait... she's in MS? LOL, I was thinking of plants that would do well in full sun in NY!

Oh yeah, way down in the South, lol. She's about 7 miles inland from the Gulf.
