Naragansett fencing

Snow Shoe, PA

I am getting 15 naragansett poults next month, and am considering using electric poultry netting for a range perimeter fence.(We lost our free ranging guineas to coyotes last spring, and electic sounds like a great idea.) Has anyone had any experience with this fencing? I was wondering if it holds up well, and how you put in a gate. Also, if I use 48" fencing, the turkeys won't be able to go over it, will they?

I believe the local organic farms use this for free ranging their turkey poults. The farm I visited has almost no problem with varmints, even though the poults are in a small meadow surrounded by woodland. They also keep one goose with the poults, which protects the baby birds from hawks. There's an open-air tentlike structure (like something you'd get from Farmtek) the birds can get under during bad weather. Wish I'd taken a picture!

pippy, did you check jkehl's thread on here? I believe he is using the electronet fencing and may can answer a lot of your questions. I would love to see pics of the nragansett poults when you get them - - - we have Royal Palms and Bourbon Reds. Best of luck to you!

Pippy,

When I raised turkeys about 40 years ago (unknown variety) they liked to roost on top of the hay barn - somewhere over 3 stories up - so I doubt a 48 inch fence would be much of a barrier once they have feathers.

The poults I spoke of had a wing clipped.
