This is my first bloom of the season. I believe it is Ruby Glow.
First bloom of the season
Oh Marie!!..Isn't she a Beauty!!..Congrats...Jeanne
Thank you. I just planted all last fall. I have not pruned anything yet as the cats kinda pruned them all for me. (For some strange reason they thought they were fun to play with until there were no more stems left) So when would this get pruned?
Ruby Glow..which I just planted last Summer as well is a pruning group 2 and as with all my pruning group 2's THE NEXT year after they are planted...I hard prune them so they can get a bigger/stronger rootsystem for the healthy longevity of the plant...I would enjoy the blooms you have now and then count up from the ground to the 3rd leaf axil and Hard Prune..don't forget to fertilize at the same time you prune and then next year..let they baby be a Pruning group 2 and don't prune except after it blooms and ONLY to shape or keep in bounds....Jeanne
So I should prune in the fall then? Boy I am going to need your help as they start blooming so I can figure out when to prune.
Marie..No you don't prune in fall..you prune as soon as it's finished blooming..it has to be blooming as I just saw the pic..LOL Those that are hard pruned are done when the Forsythias are in bloom...late winter/early Spring or the same time you give your Roses their first pruning in Spring..for me in my Zone 8B that is around Valentine's Day...Feb 14th...your Arizona Zone is just a big warmer than mine...so you are probably like Florida and do them in late Janurary or Early Feb???...Jeanne
Ok I took the next year after they are planted to mean after 1 whole year. I told you I was going to need help!! :o)
Ok I will prune after she is done blooming. I saw another one this morning. I sure do love this vine. Yes we prune our roses usually in Jan.
oh venue, that was too smart - you are "too cool for school"
marie, that bloom is spectacular, lovely color !
venus209, so cool, to include the pruning group. I did the same to mine but am just using the eonon markers. (You can tell I am a newbie at this).
too cool for school---lol. I'm new at clematis also, and went kind of overboard on buying, so I wanted to avoid lopping one off when not appropriate.
Venu those markers are great!! You should sell them (I would be your first sale) :o)
Asao!!! Yes, yes, yes. Thanks a million, Jeanne.
You are welcome hon..now go get your plant marker and write down the name and pruning group 2..LOL

you are fabulous, when I get some blooms on my 2's (shld be soon) I will do markers too - I put so many plants in last year, I really don't remember what they are (how could I have been so careless!) I'm sure I'll be asking for ID help. That Asao is a beauty!
Indeed Lily-love. I'm not the artist Venu is - but I do have two daughters that looove to paint, they would love this project. BTW - those clems are stunning together, nice job!!!!
For the lil paintings I used acrylic paints which hold up great, but I have to fine tune the kind of pen to use for the lettering. I put out one for Crystal Fountain and a month later the picture was still there but all the lettering was gone. At least I remembered which one it was by the picture LOL. When I figure out a way to get the lettering permanent I'd be happy to make some for those that like them.......had to look up the pruning group..it's a 2 :>)
Marie;
It looks like Clematis Fireworks. But we need Jeanne to confirm this. My two above I think they are Niobe and Nelly Moser. I'm waiting for Jeanne to come to my rescue. Thanks Jeanne in advance.
Lily..I am not absolutely positive about your two..could the one on the left be "Multi-Blue"? and the lighter on the left be "Nelly Moser"??..

Marie..take a pic later on with more light..is it a medium pinkish color with a darker pink bar??..Jeanne
Jeanne;
The left one remains to be a mysterious one. One on the right is indeed Nelly Moser. I thought the left one maybe Niobe? I've recently purchased "Multi-Blue" and it's a double blosom, and this particular blue is single bloom. I'll try your website above and see if I've any lucks. Thank you, for taking the time to respond. BTW; I'm Kim one of your fans. :-) I love lilies, hence; Lily-love.
Kim; zone 7b gardener; who loves lilies, addicted to Clematis, crazy about gardening in general.
Lily...You'd know if you had planted "Multi-Blue" before..it is a pruning group 2 and blooms singles on new vines (That is quite common on doubles)...mine is three years old this year and hasn't had a double bloom yet (But I hard Pruned it last year...I do all my pruning group 2's that was their second prune season in my garden) ...from what I can tell from your pic is that it is a dark purple blue with purple anthers...Multi-blue's anthers are dead give-away on new plants as mine looked like someone mushed them altogether with Mascara.....LOL..and they have points on their sepals....Here is a pic of my multi-blue from last year..I sure hope I see doubles on last years vines!!...Niobe is a deep dark RED...Jeanne
Lily-Love
Could your Purple one be The President.

Jeanne
I believe you're right. I must have purchased the clem. without a tag at the end of the season. I'll see what this does (how the flower looks this year).
gldandrews
Having looked at the link above. It does look likes that of The President. Thank you all.

First clematis to ever survive; first bloom I've ever had . . . 'Asao' . . . don't you love the color pink!!!
any suggestions for it's upkeep would be appreciated; I'm definately a novice when it comes to clematis; I think the kill/survive ratio is probably around 5 to 1. I've killed about five in the last few years and had pretty much given up on growing clematis but I found this one at Lowe's last year and it was cheap so I succumbed to the old clematis temptation. They are so beautiful but I've never had any luck. Last year it did nothing and I pretty much thought it was a goner but it came back and now it's blooming. I'm amazed.

ooh, thats really pretty, now I want an Asao, now Daddy I want it now! (do I sound like Veruca Salt?)
oh that Asao..........jumped right into my cart today.
Jeanne any idea what my second one might be?
venu, did you buy an asao today? lol - I'll be on the lookout for one as well!
Yes I did Red. Seeing Jeanne's pics made it impossible to walk by it without buying it! lol
Marie..I'm not 100% sure..does Clematis "Fireworks" ring a bell?...Jeanne
