I am training my quail and Towhees to compost my leaves. I scatter feed on the ground under my trees south of house where the quail like to eat. The first photo is of an area that was covered with leaves and winter debris, early this spring. I started scattering chicken scratch that i feed the quail in this area a month or so ago when the snow had melted. The ground looked like the ground in next photo. You can see that they have mulched the leaves, down to pretty much bare ground. Now I am scattering the feed across the path where the leaves are thick.
