Harvester butterflies, seen any in your area?

Cordele, GA(Zone 8a)

Quoting:
Harvester. - In America, our only carnivorous butterfly. They feed on woolly aphids of the genera schizoneura and pemphigus.

Can't remember the source of this quote. I have listed several noteworthy tidbits of information in my diary that I have read in this forum. I thought that was interesting that these butterfles have teeth! ROFL
I'd like to attract them to my gardens if they can help rid my beds of woolly aphids. What are their host plants? Do you think they make their home in Georgia?

LOL! Never knew that! THAT'S very interesting, Deborah! I'll have to check info about them. Don't know what they even look like. Those aren't the ones that have community nests are they? If so, you may not want them in your yard.

I don't have a clue about them. Being a green-horn at bf gardening, I don't even know what community nesting is all about. If they are pretty, and won't bite me, I'm want to plant welcome plants to attract them. If you find out more about them, Becky, let us all know.

I just read this link! ABSOLUTELY FASCINATING little butterfly!!! Nothing mentioned about nests, so I think this is a must have in any garden with woolly aphids!!! Very, very cool. Thanks for bringing this interesting little butterfly to our attention, Deborah!

Maybe others here know more about them and have some personal experiences to share as well.

They are quite beautiful lil flutterbyes, aren't they!?!

But, nopers .. the butterfly doesn't sport any form of toofers: only during (its) caterpillar stage, will it 'getcha' .. LOL
