A new fun plant.

San Leandro, CA(Zone 9b)

It gets about 3 feet by 3 feet so it will be a dramatic accent if I can keep the snails from dining on it. I am wondering if it will be an aggressive spreader like the all green version.

I first saw this in the private GH at the Strybing Arboretum a month ago. It was tagged for the silent auction they have at their spring sale. My eye went right to it. I had never seen anything like it. The other day when I saw it at the San Francisco Flower and Garden Show, I leapt at it. The guy could have sold so many more than he had.

Acanthus mollis 'Tasmanian Angel'

Beautiful, BC(Zone 8b)

Stunning! I love it. I hope you got one. Remind me of Euphorbia "Tasmanian something"

Norwalk, IA(Zone 5b)

All I can say is...OH MY!!!! :-)

La Grange, TX(Zone 8b)

Euphorbia "Tasmanian Tiger" I fell in love with it when I saw it, but I've killed the green version of the species. So I figure that a variegated one would just die faster.

Brooklyn, NY(Zone 7b)

GREAT KELL..
love hte dark green.. and the white... i the yellow an imatures phase...

Keaau, HI(Zone 11)

OOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOooooooooooooh!!!

Knoxville, TN(Zone 7a)

Tolleson, AZ(Zone 9a)

Wow!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Columbia, SC(Zone 8a)

Kell, you just love to make us lust.

Mesa, AZ(Zone 9b)

that's a beaut. upload that pic to the Plant File - there's not pic currently. http://davesgarden.com/pf/go/150743/

Taft, TX(Zone 9a)

You win, Kell, for the prettiest variegated foliage and plant I have ever seen...............love it tenderly!!!!

Cedar Key, FL(Zone 9a)

I love it Kell
but now I have to find one.....

Lone Oak, TX

I found this plant at Home Depot in Rockwall, Tx. It is in a 3Gal. pot, the size is at least 3' wide and 3' tall. The price was $14.95. The store has quite a few of them.

San Leandro, CA(Zone 9b)

Take a picture of it for us!! I won't even tell you what I paid for this small one. It was sinful. Amazing HD would have it so soon. I get around and have seen it no where here.

It is really beautiful. I am debating if I should keep it in a pot or put it in the ground. After reading how the all green one is such a pest in the ground I am hesitating. Sometimes you can have too much of a good thing!!!

Beautiful, BC(Zone 8b)

Kell, if this one becomes a pest in the ground, you'll be rich. Plant it.

Portland, TX(Zone 9a)

It's a beauty Kell; thanks for sharing.

(Zone 1)

Ok ... need to go to Rockwall Texas for Plant Shopping at Home Depot!

What a Beauty ... sure wish our HD had them here!

San Leandro, CA(Zone 9b)

Florida HDs seem to be great too. I wish ours were!

Jacksonville, FL(Zone 9a)

WOW! Thanks for sharing that photo, what a beautiful plant. Good luck with that one. I think you should buy a little hen to patrol the garden for snails. :-)

Cedar Key, FL(Zone 9a)

kell
if you are REALLY concerned about putting it in the ground...
Send it to me
I have ACRES it can grow in so I would bite the bullet and take care of it for you
I can send you pictures every few months
ROTFLMAO

San Leandro, CA(Zone 9b)

Shoot Alice, I should have gotten you one too. I never thought of it.

Hey CC, you are taking a page out of my book. I guess you are due for a pic of your lapageria. I just fertilized it for you so you owe me $5 for that.

Jacksonville, FL(Zone 9a)

Now Kell, No sinful things here (except chocolate). LOL

Large all green Acanthus are widly available in the southeast but I have not seen the vairgated one anywhere but in the PD catalog. Did you know this one had PINK flower when you bought it??????

Taft, TX(Zone 9a)

gail

San Leandro, CA(Zone 9b)

Better yet Gail, he needs to send us all one of them! LOL.

No Alice, I didn't. I love that pic they have of it. I think I will put it in my variegated mixed pot to start, then see what. I hope it puts out a baby so you will get one too, Alice. I owe you big but I guess not enough to part with mine. LOL I am so bad. A true plant hog.

Jacksonville, FL(Zone 9a)

That's the best kind of hog!!!! :-)))

Judsonia, AR(Zone 7b)

I saw this at the memphis botanical garden plant sale I made a mad dash for it, but stopped dead in my tracks when I saw the price tag of 25.00.

It was way too small for me to pay that much for it. LOL

but it is beautiful

San Leandro, CA(Zone 9b)

Mine is a doing well. I have a new white leaf! And no snails have touched it. I think I have found a great snail killer. Usually at this time I have a snail nursery in my courtyard with oso many babies eating their way through my plants. They esp love to eat my abutilons. This year none. I emptied a box of iron phosphate about 4 weeks ago. At first I thought it was useless because I saw no snail funerals going on. But I haven't seen a snail since!!

East Texas, United States(Zone 8a)

I want that plant, kell.

San Leandro, CA(Zone 9b)

LOL Voss!! It gets HUGE too!!

Here is another weird leafed plant I got the other day. A hydrangea.

Thumbnail by Kell
East Texas, United States(Zone 8a)

I figured it gets big. I have the solid green one and I could swear it gets the size of a VW. I love that hydrangea, though I don't know how to care for them. Have not done well w/ them yet.

Jacksonville, FL(Zone 9a)

Voss, Do you have your hydrangeas in light shade? Since you grow such beautiful roses I suspect you have a lot of sun and they are sure fussy about full sun. Unlike most plants hydrangeas seem to love my soggy, salty and shady soil.

Kell, your new "weird leafed plant" is stunning.

San Leandro, CA(Zone 9b)

Oh Alice, so do you want one?? I can go find one for you. I happened to get you 2 plants today. 1 is very PINK. LOL

It is called Lemon Wave.

Beautiful ! The one vendor showing in Plant Files that sells it has it for $45.00 . It sure is stunning .

San Leandro, CA(Zone 9b)

Oh, $45 is so much, Allison. I am looking for some cheaper locally to send to friends. Did you see where Big Dipper Farms says it will have 5-foot pink and cream flower spikes. I didn't realize that!!! Another great trait for sure.

http://www.bigdipperfarm.com/cgi-bin/searchstuff.pl?Botanical=Acanthus

Jacksonville, FL(Zone 9a)

TWO! Goodness, gracious, you are not supposed to spoil me or I will get accustomed to it . LOL (Phil says I am already overly spoiled.)

Honestly, now I will have to find something else really special to send to CA. Oh, what fun!

Northern California, CA(Zone 9a)

Hey Kell, Look at the auction plant for next week's sale at the Arboretum!

Thumbnail by begoniacrazii
Judsonia, AR(Zone 7b)

I'm thrilled to say I finally bought one in memphis at dabneys for l5.00 that was by far the cheapest i've ever seen them.

I'm thrilled to death !!!!!!!!!

San Leandro, CA(Zone 9b)

Lali, that is where I saw it for the first time with the label for the silent auction. So when I saw it at the show, I knew it was hard to find.

Here is the same plant you just posted but on 3/9/07.

Thumbnail by Kell
San Leandro, CA(Zone 9b)

How big was it, Kathy? I just love mine. It is a birght point in my courtyard for sure.

Judsonia, AR(Zone 7b)

Just a little smaller than the one in your picture, but jeese, yours is more variegated , I just love that little guy , it's so cute.
