Hi all, I had an adorable Anna's hummingbird live in my backyard through the winter and now I'm hooked!!
I've planted crocosmia, penstemon (and the hummers love my hosta flowers as well) but just now got the phygelius (2-winchester in pots bcz I heard they sucker like crazy) and one pink elf. Does anyone have these plants, and how well do they draw the hummingbirds?
Thanks!
phygelius rectus - attract hummingbirds?
well, little lady that will draw the hummers like crazy !
Really ! great news, I was wondering, I know in some areas it takes a while for the hummers to even notice and I was hoping for nightly visits!
Get our your camera when those bushes start flowering their little trumpet flowers, you'll have lots of visitors there - maybe I could come over and see ?
what do you mean, I don't even know you - I'm talking about nightly visits from hummers - NOT PEOPLE !
Oh, we could just talk about phygelius rectus and such, you type so nice - do you have any nectar?
I'm going now to stick my hands in the dirt until I feel better - GOOD BYE!
ROFLMBO! I have yet to get hummers, so not much to say. But ..... I was enjoying your conversation with me, myself, and I! LOL!
I just got some Fuchsia (Fucsia Surtida). See photo. I have been told that the hummers love it. I thought that Fuchsia only came as a vining/climbing plant. When I saw these I grabbed TWO!!! They are low shrubs that grow to 3' height! Just my kind of plant! I got mine at Lowes. Maybe something else you could try! Of course, I am STILL after over a year still trying to woo hummers to my yard. They are here. I have friends that get them all the time in their yards and they live not too far from me. But I am still waiting .....
tee hee you caught me !!
you read my mind about the fuschia, I was thinking about that, too. Darn it, I was at Lowe's yesterday, too.
They'll come to your yard - we get a few more every year - I just want a plant that REALLY draws them. So far, the hosta flowers seem to get their attention more than anything else ?!
Lol Red, sorry, I just saw this thread. You're a great conversationalist!
Love the fuschia! I don't have any Phygelius, but it looks so pretty and like it would be a hummer magnet.
I haven't had any luck with Fuschia, I don't think they liked the heat.
You think hummers come out at night? I've never noticed that, have you seen them?
I was reading the post, and thought to myself, "OK, Looney Bin" The conversation was bad enough, but starting an arguement with herslef, I was going to have to see where that lead to.
I thought I was bad. LOL
sorry goldeneagle -- blush -- perhaps too much compost that day.
fly girl - I wasn't being clear, I should have said evening ; ours around here seem to flock around the backyard in the evening - which I called night, I was getting too caught up in my conversation I guess :)
Quite OK. Glad to see there is someone like me out there. LOL
ty golden,! :)
