Hey Bro, what cha got on your nose..........?

Claremore, OK(Zone 6a)

It's so funny to watch the baby chicks. Even though they don't need food for a couple days, they are instantly looking for something to peck.......even before they get dry after hatching. They seem to notice each other's egg-tooth first thing. It's almost as if they're saying........"Hey little brother, what's that goofy thing ya got on your nose ? Let me help you get that thing off there." peck peck peck............. LOL They make me laugh. So cute and funny.

LOLOLOLOLOL, what a cute description, Peggie! I've never thought of it that way, but you are SO right! So, I am assuming you had a successful hatch? Tell us more........and be sure to post pics! We need to hear "the rest of the story" as Paul Harvey would say! lol

What'cha Got Peggie????Huh, whatcha got Huh???"

I got a few, 5 actually. Unfortunately, it wasn't a great hatch, but I'm happy for the little guys that made it. They must be plenty tough little buggers.

I put 14 eggs from my mixed breed mutts into the incubator. It seemed like they were doing well, although I really couldn't tell as I had a really hard time candling because most were brown or green.

Some were from my Aruacana, green eggs. As it turned out, none of them were even fertilized.
Hmmmm, guess the roos don't find her attractive ? I was disappointed my Aruacana roo didn't find her appealing.

I lost 2 during their hatch............don't know what happened. They pipped and worked on their shells
for a while and then just died.

Then there were 4 that made it almost to hatch. They had matured to the actual size but never pipped.

After 26 days, I cracked open the ones that didn't hatch to see what happened, and that's what I was able to determine. I think it must have been my thermometer in the incubator. It seemed to me a couple of times that it wasn't right, but I wasn't sure. Either that, or the sensor inside the incubator may need to be replaced. Seems like the temp was all over the place this time. Also, I may have been too slack in turning them this time too. Some days I was only able to be available to turn them once a day.
So, all in all.............not a great hatch. But I did get a few cuties.

What I got was 3 that were from my RIR hen and my Aruacana rooster, and 2 little bantams from my
little black fuzzy faced bantam (don't know her breed, but she's bearded) , and my bantam Old English roo. They are all so cute !

I wish I could post some pics, but I've been having a terrible time with trying to transfer my pics to the puter lately. I have the Kodak Easy Share program, and it seems to not be working right. Grrrrr.

As soon as I'm able to get it figured out, I will post some pics, as I have the little White Crested Black Polish Chicks too. They are changing rapidly as they grow. Got some funky hair-do's going on there.

It's so funny to watch one of the other chicks that is a little bigger help them groom their little top-pouf.
Looks like she's helping them style their spikey-style hair do. LOL

Peggie, considering all those factors with your bator.............you did good! :-) Isn't it wonderful watching them hatch? I've always been told that the ones that pip and give up, aren't strong enough to make it in the first place. So, its best that way. I'm so happy for you!!!!!! I'm sure your little ones are darling. Those polish babies are the cutest ever, I think. Mine just have the little yellow "poofs" right now, but seem to be top heavy when they walk - - - I giggle watching them! lol So sorry about your EasyShare problems...........so much for it being "easy" to share, huh? Foohy. Keep us posted on everyones outcome! You know how Eufaula and I both LUV everyones stories! :-)

Yep , More stories and Pics, Everybody!!!! I know I just jump in here a lot with my " Proud Parent" album, I figured no one else in the world would care about my babies but you all, and I seem to be right! But i love to see all the others and share ideas and helpful hints! Going to anonymous "Chicken Sites", and asking questions is good sometimes , but sharing with all of you is so much better!
