I hope someone can give me some guidance. I overwintered some gladiolus bulbs in peat moss in what I thought was my cool basement. However, I noticed that they've already started to sprout. In my zone 5, I'm sure it's too early to plant them outside. What should I do with them until then? Should I plant them in pots and keep them in my garage by a sunny window or should I leave them be? If I cut the growth off now, will they resprout when I plant them out in May? Thanks in advance for some advice.
Gladiolus question
I wouldn't cut the growth off, I would plant them in pots as you suggest.
We can plant from mid March here, but I put some in pots and have some others on the floor of a north facing shed keeping cool until I plant them, they were sprouting when I got them. It shouldn't do them any harm for a short period if they only have short sprouts, but to wait until May is perhaps a little too long.
I think Bernie, countrygardens, plants from mid April in zone 4. We have a Gladiolus Forum now!
Thanks Wallaby1! I have so many that I may experiment by planting some in pots and keeping some until mid-April to plant in the ground. Being relatively new to gardening (this is only my 3rd summer that I have a nice big yard to work with) I've come to realize that successful gardening is mostly about trial and error. Thanks again.
