Barley For Pond

Columbia, MO(Zone 5b)

I have the dreaded "cloudy water" that comes with the spring warmup. I wanted to try barley this year as I hear it works well for this problem. Does anyone have a favorite place to get this?

Hi tetleytuna,

No I ordered mine from a mail order company but I'm pretty sure you can get it at any aquatic store.

I'm experiencing the same pea soup syndrome. I'm doing my 1/3 water exchanges and praying that my DH will start the waterfall up with the UV light. I even put the 10 yr old granddaughter up to asking him to start it up.

I hope granddaughter gave him "the look" LOL. I am going to do some work on the waterfall and probably start it up next week. We do not have any aquatic stores that I know of around here. I tried calling the farm supply stores and they could not tell me where to get it.

I found Barley grass and liquid extract at PetsMart in the ponds and aquariums section. :)

I had not thought to check the pet store. Will do that this weekend.

Started the filter and UV's here on March 21 to 2000 gals of murky green water. The koi were shadowy blobs. Left town and came back on the 26th to much clearer water. Cleaned the by now very clogged filter mats, drained the filter chamber and replaced about 300 gals of water. There is also some dead clumped algae on the pond bottom. Today the water is crystal clear. The only additive used was Microbelift PL, yesterday. Love those UV's!

Hoohray!!! My DH started the waterfall and UV light today so maybe my pea soup will clear up now. I guess it was that look the 10 yr old gave him.

Aren't grandchildren wonderful!
