Manure for Banana Trees?

Wesley Chapel, FL(Zone 9a)

Anybody use manure on their banana trees?

I have a good 15-5-30 banana fertilizer, but I was wondering if some horse manure top-dressing woudn't help.

I never see anything about it in print.

I just put some steer manure on my Musa basjoo to get it going. I always try and get the richest manure/leaf-mold/compost I can which they just seem to absorb. I'm not sure what the "burning point" is with them but I haven't found it yet.

I don't think it could hurt them....but bananas really like the Potassium to bloom and give fruit.

Composted manure is OK. Did you all know that when a banana that is fruiting it will stop setting fruit when it gets low on potassium? I learned that from a member of the local tropical fruit club. I always wondered why so many plants I have seen only had a few 'hands' in the truss, now I know.

I've got fruit, along with a potssium-rich fertilizer. I guess I'll just pass on the manure.

Good information DaG...we were told recently to fertilize every month...but then, we get 150" rain a year!!!
