Sweet Pea Experiment

Lincoln, NE(Zone 5b)

About 5 weeks ago, I decided to start some seeds inside under lights and decided to try some sweet peas in peat pots. After soaking them 24 hours in boiling water, I realized I'd soaked way too may of them, so put the left over ones in the refrigerator wrapped in wet paper towels and in baggies. What with a couple stays in the hospital, I forgot about them and just opened the baggies today. Guess what? I had two baggies full of sweet pea sprouts. Just took them outside and planted them. If they don't grow, I still have the ones I started in the peat pots, but I have a feeling these may do even better. They are purple and pink Streamers. Planted them on some trellises and will replace them with Japanese morning glories when it get too hot for them. Will let you know how they do.

I'm feeling great! My poor sweet peas aren't. They look very sickly!! Only a few are growing and they are may be 6" tall.

Well, we got the most important part covered... did it just get too warm for them? I've never dared tread on Planet Sweet Pea.
