Yup, I came home today with a couple of these...didn't intend to but I kept seeing them mentioned here at DG and couldn't seem to pull my hand back without 2 bags in it:LOL: They are on the small side (tuber?) but I'm hoping to have some to divide next season so I can share. I think in my zone (7) I'll have to actually lift them before winter. That makes me a bit nervous but it can't be that hard right?!
Chocolate Cosmos-Atrosanguineus
I grew one last year and though not spectacular it was unique. However, when I went to dig it up in the fall, alas, I failed to find the bulb.
Maybe I should tie a piece of twine or something around one of the stems (with any luck there will be some:LOL:) near the ground just to help me figure out where it's supposed to be=) I've lost a few lily bulbs that way so I know what you mean. The photos I've seen posted here look like they were taken from good specimens so I'm hoping for the best. I'm getting an Echinacea called Tiki Torch that is sort of orange which might look nice near it if they bloom around the same time or overlap.
Thank you for posting the photo! That is such a unique color. I guess it might end up looking like Halloween with the chocolate like color and orange but I can make it look sorta like a 70's color theme if I plop in one of the Heuchera Lime Rickey I'm getting--my take on the burnt orange, lime green and brown of 70's kitchen decor:LOL:
If they do OK and I can store them I'll try to find some iris that play up the browns/golds.
Thanks for your advice and experience...it always helps me when I talk to people who understand what I'm talking about;) None of my friends are into gardening like I am, so I have to bounce my ideas and questions off the DGers who are always kind enough to offer their help.
