African beauties

Tottori, Japan(Zone 9a)

My favorite African bulb plant "Lachenalia". I seeded them about 3 years ago, and this year, the first flower came out!

Thank you for your massage dmj1218 and critterologist!
dmj1218,
I sowed mix seed so I don't know which species :(
If some one know, please tell me...!

I agree, they are very pretty! Now my interest in these is renewed, and I really can't grow anything else yet!

I think the first one is L. pustulata, it has the bumps on the leaves.

The second one could be Lachenalia unifolia var. wrightii , it has the small brown patches near the outer tips of the petals.

They really are lovely goldenfish! Thanks for looking those up for us Janet because its definitely not dark here yet and I sure didn't have time to do it. They were really easy from seed too Janet. These are puny little things but are STURDY (you know how these "wispy" things are getting on my nerves!) as opposed to fine and wispy. These were NARGS seeds sown 1/27/2007 in a very tiny pot and sitting out in full sun. I'm real pleased with how they grow from seed. It is L orthopetala and I was going to put it on the rain thread but didn't get around to it. Guess it applies better here too. Now I'm excited to start the ones from SilverHill in the fall.

Oh yes, sturdy looking for sure!

I put my L. aloides quadricolor in a few days ago, here's hoping.......I love that one but there are so many other desirables!

Hi wallaby1,
Thank you for nice Lachenalia list site! As I check the site, my guess is that the first one would be Lachenalia carnosa. The scond one's flower really like a L.unifolia var. wrightii but the leaf is different. Mine is wider than L.unifolia. Anyway, thank you for searching!
dmj1218,
Lachenalia orthopetala, that sounds good! You can hardly wait for flowering, can't you?
My lachenalias are also from SilverHill. I'm hoping to increase the bulbs to gave them lots of fertilizers.

Hi Kaleem,
I came out of hibernation.
Is it a Lampranthus? The brilliant color woke me up:)
Thank you for sharing!
