How long until Caladium bulbs rot?

Mesa, AZ(Zone 9b)

I planted 3 calidium bulbs (too early) 4 weeks ago and other 6 about 3 weeks ago. The weather here has been between fluctuating the mid 70's and mid 90's during the day and 50-60 at night. Temps should be warming steadily over the next week.

Anyone care to speculate whether these bulbs are going to rot? I don't want to dig them up just to check.

not necessarily. They would for sure if you were having non-stop rain, but just because in ground a tad early, I don't think you are at great risk. However, I have learned my lesson and never plant before april 1. Hard to do, as you start seeing bulbs at lowes/HD in Feb. I don't know what's up w/ those guys. trying to make a sale, I guess. Ask bill at caladium4less, he can tell you for sure.

so hard not to plant them right away! it hasn't rained but i have been watering because i have canna bulbs (sprouted) with the caladiums and bananas.

pheitmeyer,

The temperatures are not going to cause your bulbs to rot. Over watering might!
You don't need to water as much while the bulbs are germinating. Once you start seeing leaves then you will need to water more frequently. With day time temperatures like you're having, you should be seeing leaves pretty soon.

The companion canna bulbs I planted with them have already sprouted and already growing leaves, so it shouldn't be long now. thx all!
