"Field trip" for all my cuttings today

Jeffersonville, IN(Zone 6b)

It is simply gorgeous today! So, all of my baby cuttings, with exception of two because I'm potting them up, and my huge ones that I cannot lift alone, are outside enjoying the sun and the breeze! Cannot wait to compare this picture to what they will look like this fall. :) And to think I only had one brug back in June. LOL!!

They look wonderful and have to be enjoying their field trip. My plants would love a trip outside, but it's not going to happen just yet. I'm too lazy to take them out and then bring them back in.

Thanks Tussee!

This is my first time overwintering brugs, and it was not easy. I kept reading horror stories, thinking, "oh, it can't be that bad." I admit, even with a humidifier, I had one or two spidermite outbreaks, and then those stupid fungus gnats that are hopefully under control now since I've been using Gnatrol. But, the worst part is that even with grow lights and two spotlights, the cuttings I have on the floor, because they are too tall to be on the shelves, would throw their leaves off in disgust because there was just not enough light for them. Luckily, it seems like they've forgiven me now and are waiting to be put outside for the Spring/Summer. Whew!!

"It's a Beautiful Day in the Neighborhood" I bet they loved it.

What a fun sight, Felicia! Glad to see your brugs got to go on a field trip...LOL
They look great. Bet your anxious to get them a bloomin!! I can't wait to get mine out too.

This is November 2006 after blooming NON-STOP for months!

I see I have to take more full size pics. I was on a mission to get perfect bloom pics and forget to take full size shots. Great Thread... inspiring for sure.

Thanks Kin & Joyce!
They are back outside today, and it's supposed to be perfect brug weather all week -- highs near 80 lows in the 50's.
What brug do you have pictured, Joyce?
If any of these cuttings are to bloom this summer, I hope that Day Dreams and Adeline are the ones to strut their stuff. :)

(Tammie) Odessa, TX(Zone 7b)

My brug and plumeria cuttings are huddled against the house for group protection from a thunderstorm last night. Mostly wind and some rain.. a whole... 1/8 inch! But their feet got wet. Hopefully we will have sun today to dry them out and warm them up. Especially my plumerias... they don't like damp cool weather.

Yours look sooo happy sitting in the sun. Bet they don't throw off any more leaves.

Felicia that is Tequila Sunrise in the photos. I had to prop up the branches cause they were gonna hit the ground from the weight of the blooms. You could smell the fragrance across the street! My neighbor would open her front door to get the scent. LOL

You will love to look back at the photos of when you first got them, first put them ouside, etc. It is such a wonderful ride. Enjoy!

Great job Felicia !! You and Joyceee are going to have banner years with all your hard work getting them through the Winter and ready to bloom their little hearts out for you all Spring and Summer !!!
Congrats !! God bless, Love ya, Margo

Yes, they look great, IndianaLily. If you want to take a new picture of your cuttings in the fall, I am affraid, that you are going to need a much bigger camera ; ) Like ZZ's pictures illustrate so well, the growth speed of your small Angel's Trumpets will amaze you all through the summer.

Tonny,
Thanks much!! It's funny you bring up this post from over a month ago. Unfortunately, at the beginning of April, we had an unexpected cold front that caused me to have to take everything back inside for over 2 weeks. :( They all pouted, but are back outside now. And, since then I've already had to repot a few because they were becoming rootbound!!!

When they get a bit bigger, I'll definitely post an updated picture. In the meantime, I think I really need to think about a greenhouse for next winter!!! They'll never fit in my guest bedroom again!!

Jeffersonville, IN(Zone 6b)

Updated pictures -- 1 1/2 months later. Some are a bit droopy because I just potted them up....

and last set. They've grown quite a bit, haven't they?

They look healthy. wish mine did... so many leaves have been snapped off about 1/3 from the main stem. I have sprayed, sevined dusted and looked for the culprits.. almost every leaf is shredded and about 1/2 falling off ... I have to get these critters!

Keep those nice pictures coming... gives me hope for my little cuttings.

Indianin Lilly, Thanks for sharing the pictures. I am new to brugs and I took some before pictures too! My collection looks a bit like yours. So I must be doing ok.
Please post with an up date.

And, finally, here's Isabella (a/k/a "Drama Queen, as you can tell by the droopy leaves). :) There's a few not pictured because they are kinda scattered about. Anyway, hope you enjoyed the pictures, and know that I'll be in trouble this fall trying to find places to overwinter everything!!

I'll bet you find places to hold them over. I held over about 50 and grew 80+ seedlings too. Brug growers are a special breed....and they can do anything they put their mind to...nevermind that one can't sit at the kitchen table anymore or get to the windows to look out at the snow during the winter month. LOL! Your pictures are nice and I'll be anxious to see your brugs all in bloom.

Jeffersonville, IN(Zone 6b)

Shirley, I'm learning this the hard way!! LOL!! It's scary when you open your refrigerator and see nothing but brug seeds, or had dreams of buying patio furniture only to discover the brugs have taken over. :) I remember all the cuttings all over my kitchen last fall, and I only had 3 brugs at the time. It also takes a special breed to put up with people like us.

There are two houses for sale on my street that I'm eyeing, just for overwintering purposes. LOL!! As it stands now, my car will have to give up the garage for the winter. :(

Chariton, IA(Zone 5b)

Only three? Look at you now. This winter should be a big challenge for you....and your car. LOL! We have a garage that Jim won't park his truck in because he is afraid he will knock the side mirrors off, so I get it for plants. I used to put stuff in the basement, but the knees won't allow that anymore. I've started growing tropical hibiscus too, so they get the house this year.

Jeffersonville, IN(Zone 6b)

Oh, I just cannot wait. Not only do I have the brug thing going, but I found that I really, really like Plumerias too. And, let's not forget the Passifloras that are not hardy here. Hibiscus are very nice too, but I've got to put a stop to this somewhere!!

See, Jim is special. He's making an excuse not to park the truck in the garage so that you can keep your plants happy. LOL!!

I've been dating someone for about a month now, and the first time he came to my home, I warned him about the brugs, and told him that if they were too scary for him, I'd understand. He apparently has taken it in stride so far, however, that may be a different story at the end of the summer when they are all huge. LOL!!

(Mary) Poway, CA(Zone 10a)

LOL That's great. A new test to find out if a man is worthy = show him your brugmansia, and if he doesn't run he's worth a look.

My poor man has been through a lot with me. My first hobby was baking (he gained a few pounds with that one), then horses, (What an expensive hobby!) and then raising Jack Russell Terriers. Is it any wonder that he takes a bunch of brugs in stride?!

Mary

Jeffersonville, IN(Zone 6b)

Mary, you didn't scare him away with the Jack Russell Terriers??? Wow!! That is truly impressive. LOL!! The horses and baking I can see, but the Jack Russell's is a stretch for me. I have a Chihuahua-Jack Russell mix. That is very cool that you raised them, though -- must have been a lot of hard work!!

Yes, if a man doesn't run from my brugs, he is definitely worth a look and worthy. :) Now, to plant some more seeds!! LOL!!

Wow! Your babies are growing up! They're looking lovely too!

I have a variegated-leaf Brug like yours. I thought mine was called .... sunset.

Adrian, MI(Zone 5b)

They all look so healthy! Good job!
You have a great collection started!!
Just wait till you get your first blooms; you'll be addicted for sure!
Bonnie

Jeffersonville, IN(Zone 6b)

Teresa, there are a few variegated Brugs. I know of Maya, Sunset (apparently Sunset and Maya may be one in the same), Snowbank, and I think Axel Rose. There are probably others, but that's all I can think of right now.

Thanks much, Bonnie! I definitely became addicted last fall after seeing Isabella's incredible flush!! Now, I have all these others, and I keep telling them to "Y" already!!

Chariton, IA(Zone 5b)

Gosh, it's too bad she is such a shy bloomer. LOL! That is a beautiful picture. I hope your others do as well this summer.

(Mary) Poway, CA(Zone 10a)

That's the kind of flush that turns normal people into Brugmansia addicts.

Jeffersonville, IN(Zone 6b)

Shirley, she was so shy (and still is) that I had to keep her on the side of the house -- away from the other brugs. :) Thanks much for the wishes!!

Mary, I remember counting around 180 buds on Isabella before she started her flush. It was nothing but amazing. And to think, I found her at a nursery in a dark corner because no one wanted her, and ended up getting her for nothing. And, as it turns out, I got her a year ago today. :)

Chariton, IA(Zone 5b)

You sure got your money's worth. If you figure out how to get them to Y when you wish, please let me know the secret. Blooms seem to be coming very slowly this year.
