I have a question about a Strawberry Begonia (which I know isn't a begonia) but I'm not getting any replies in the Beginning Houseplant forum. Any ideas where I can post it to get an answer? All I want to know is how it flowers -- above the crown or on the runners.
Where do I go?
mine have always sent up flowers from the centre of the plant..........
I always had problems with them as well, then I put one in my terrarium and it is the happiest little plant.......sending out runners all over the place!!!!
threegardeners,
Thanks for the info. I may have to try it again one day.
From all photo's I've seen, the flowers form in the crown of the plants. Here's the link to Plant Files and you can see in some of the photo's the flowers coming from the crown. The stolons or runners, form new plantlets and when those bloom, the flower stalks come from the crowns of the new plants.

Scott, which begonia is that you have pictured there. That's beauitful
That is saxifraga stolonifera 'Tricolor'.
it's beautiful
They do spread very well, in my 7a, west-facing, rotten clay soil bed, partial shade, planted w/ geraniums, tricyrtris, hakonlea, heuchera, violas, hostas, iris ensata, sarcococca-I also planted quite a few bletilla striata-but no sign of them this year...
Gosh, I may have to post a trade for that one, that's beautiful, I like the harvest moon strawberry begonia too
