Spindly stems-what to do?

San Diego, CA

My Brugmansia has two extra spindly stems growing from the base and I am not sure what to do with them.

Should I leave them?

If I want to propogate, can these cuttings be used? IF so, where should I cut them? They are alot greener (whichi indicates younger???) than the main stem so does this require special propogation?

Any info at all would be helpful.
BTW It's a Frosty Pink cultivar.

Actually, there is one thicker, larger stem mgrowing on the right and on the left you can see one of the greener stems. What to do?

Depends what you want. If you want a bush type brugmansia, just leave them as is. If you want to grow your plant into a standard - or tree shape then you could take off the smaller green branches and do whatever you want with them. Cut the green ones as close to the ground as you can. Root them or toss them. This time of year things are starting to root quite easily. Use a rooting compound and stick it in a small pot of well draining soil. Water lightly - they won't need much until they have roots. You could also root in a little jar of water. Changing the water every few days. Some throw a few drops of peroxide in the water. I bet you'll get at least 6 people telling you which method works best for them. Try which ever catches your fancy. Since you'd have the mother plant it wouldn't hurt so much if your cuttings didn't take.

Thank you for the advice. I think I'll try rooting them as they make nice trading items.
I have a bubbler...would placing them in perlite in the bubbler in a warm, bright spot be good? It is a bit humid in the bubbler so not sure if that would be bad for them. It works great for germinating seeds!

Sometimes a cooler spot works better when you're trying to root.
