Hi all,
I need to know whether under a 30 mph wind if I should leave the doors and window mesh vents open on my plastic greenhouse, or close 'er up. Is it better to have the wind go through or stop at the door, so to speak? I do not want the whole thing tumbling over! If I had taken physics, I would probably know this -- hopefully someone can give me some first hand information.
Thanks,
Suzy
Emergency help requested - plastic greenhouse - high winds
If your grhouse is well secured to the ground, then it should hold fine. I would keep the door closed to prevent a wind tunnel thru the grhouse. With high winds, there is too much wind coming thru the door to go out a small opening. However, as I said above-if it is secured well, then no problem either way. If you are worried, I would close the door and just let the wind come thru the vents like normal. Good luck!!
NO NO NO , Suzy.
CLOSE those doors now!!! And everything else!
I lost my plastic door on my greenhouse last year due to just that.
Edited to say try to keep it grounded with stepping stones, jugs of water, etc. anywhere you can on the plastic part on the ground.
Edited again, LOL, to say, only 30 mph winds? Pssssssssttttttttt. That is nothing! We get up to 60+ mph here in the NW, LOL

Thank you both so much! I ran out and battened down the hatches as soon as I read your replies. I use bricks on the plastic at the bottom, all 4 sides; and it has grommets for little 6" stakes into the ground, and those are secured. We'll see. It's only a 4 x 6 footprint and it's 6'o tall. I have the heaviest pots and so forth on the lower shelves, thinking that will lower the center of gravity.
Daisyruffles, the more I hear firsthand about the PNW, the less it sounds like the gardening Nirvana I always assumed it was. LOL! You can keep your 60 mph winds and your nice gray winters and those humongous slugs!
Thanks for the quick replies!!!!
Suzy
My plastic greenhouse was the 4' x 6' too.
Hey, I love my NW, LOL Yes, we have slugs, dark, gloomy days, but we do have sunshine and much milder temp. and weather than you, LOL
AND
We can grow so much more than you, LOL
But every place in the world has their specialties!!!
By the way, I owe you some dahlia tubers and just looked at them today. Am getting eyes on some so............will be sending you some in a few weeks!
