Mailorder Clematis for Montreal

Colleyville, TX(Zone 8a)

I would like to send my friend who lives in Mtl a clematis for her BD.Can you recommend a clematis for zone 5a and a mailorder that delivers to Canada? Thanks

Blyth, ON(Zone 5b)

Hi bananna18! Welcome to the Canadian Gardening forum. I don't have any specific recommendations for clematis for zone 5a, but one of my very favourite places to order plants from is Gardenimport.com here's a direct link to their clematis page for you: http://www.gardenimport.com/spblvl2.php?lvl=Clematis There are 33 different clematis there to choose from - all except one (texensis odoriba) are hardy to zone 5 :-)

I hope this helps!

Hate to tell you B U T ....... Canada Customs usually manages to confiscate and destroy plant material sent from outside the country, unless it is accompanied by a phyto-sanitary certificate isued by your Ag Dept. showing that it has been inspected by your govt. inspector. Your intended recipient will only get a letter from Canada Customs that something illegal was destroyed by them.

A far better idea would be to order one from a Cdn. source.
http:www.hortico.com comes to mind. Mybe http://www.valleyKnursery.com hs them. Not sure of these urls,(off top of my head) but you can google both of them and find the correct address. Maybe that is what you were planning to do, anyway.

Reread GinnyLynn's mesage. Duh..... I need coffee before I get online. Gardens Import is a good reputable store.

And you could probably send almost anything in the GI catalogue. I am in 3B and we grow many types here. I dont grow Group B because they are not reliable here - perhaps they would be OK in Mtl.

Coffee is a definite must for me before I try to act intelligent in the mornings Ginny :-) LOL The last time I had to fast for routine blood tests (only allowed a small amount of water) I stumbled around in a dopy daze until I could finally get one of Timmie's coffees into me. Thank God for early morning appointments!

Thanks for the GI link. It is exactly what I needed.
As for coffee...I also dread those situations when I can't have my morning coffee.BTW, does Timmie = Tim Horton's?

Blyth, ON(Zone 5b)

Absolutely right - Tim Horton's, one of our finest national institutions :-)

There are no "Timmie's" here. Even Dunkin' donuts are scarce. I do miss that.
