Question for Fish emulsion/Seed weed kelp users

Sugar Land, TX(Zone 9a)

Hello, everyone.

Exactly how are you applying this to your plants? Are you using a hose and spreading it with a sprayer or diluting in a pitcher and pouring right on? I'd like to try but I'd rather know what method works best first. If I have to dilute in a pitcher, it will take me FOREVER to cover my plants.

I use a sprayer that dilutes the concentration according to the setting.I don't worry too much because it can only help whatever it sprays on. I think it is better to apply in early am so it can be absorbed by the leaves. I will be curious to see other responses though.

I also use it in a hose-end sprayer, the kind that sets the concentration. However, yesterday I did the watering-can method. The things I wanted to use it on were not too big yet, so I just dumped it on the leaves of the upcoming daylilies, etc. I also warn my neighbors when they pass by when I am using it, "spraying with fish emulsion, sorry for the smell". :)

I mix up a concoction of fish emulsion, Hasta-Gro, and Peter's 20-20-20 in a wheelbarrow. I figured out that my wheelbarrow holds about 10 gallons. I measure and mix the stuff accordingly and scoop it out with a pitcher and pour it over plants. It 'jump-starts' everything. Then I rotate ferts the rest of the season. I also spray Messenger every 3 weeks starting now....Sandi

p.s. Just did this yesterday, but only had the Peter's.....I mixed 6 wheelbarrows to do the entire yard and all the pots. The key is figuring out how much water your wheelbarrow holds and how much fertilizer would be used in that amount of water. Once you have that measurement, it goes quickly and you don't waste any fert.

I use a bucket to mix it up and pour on my plants, but I basically only use it on my hydrangeas because it would take forever to "bucket" feed the entire garden. I may have to try what has been suggested and see how the sprayer works. Just better pick a non-windy day or else I'll end up smelling like fish. Right now, we aren't having very many days without wind.

Missouri City, TX

I mixed in a garden sprinkler bucket.

Thanks everyone! This was exactly what I needed to know. I've never used it before and I'm going to start now.
