has anyone grown Lemon Bottlebrush (Callistemon citrinus )?

Rochester, WA(Zone 7b)

Hi,

I just got back from Ca, (Sacramento). while there I saw lots of Bottlebrush in the local area. my question is, has anyone have any luck growing these up here in the N.W.? I;m in Zone 8a just south of Olympia. I've done some looking online and on this site .Most info states they will grow in zones 8a-11..

thanx

I have one growing very nicely, although I think we might be classed as 9a (we rarely go below -5C, and this was a particularly mild year). But it hasn't been phased by the weather at all. I suggest giving it a try, maybe in one of your more sheltered sites.

I don't grow it here but I have seen it being grown so I don't think you would have a problem in your zone.

I just bought a callistemon v. "Little John", which a number of sources seem to indicate is the best variety for the Pacific Northwest -- hardier than Callistemon citrinus. It's a beautiful plant in pictures, compact and bushy.

There are Pretty hardy Callistemons some down to -18C or 0F..... Provenance is very important when selected a hardier one..... Sieberi .... Pallidus and woodlanders hardy along with walport hardy are all hardy here in the Sw of Portland Oregon.... There are lots of others that are hardy too..... and someothers that will get burned at 20F... Also hardy in Seattle and parts of B.C. area....

c. Little John is a miniature red, absolutely lovely. slow grower.
I constantly lust after a yellow bottlebrush. I don't know anybody in my area that sells it or anybody that grows it, but I definitely want one.
